Botany Bay Plantation Heritage Preserve/Wildlife Management Area is a state preserve on Edisto Island, South Carolina. Botany Bay Plantation was formed in the 1930s from the merger of the Colonial-era Sea Cloud Plantation and Bleak Hall Plantation. In 1977, it was bequeathed to the state as a wildlife preserve; it was opened to the public in 2008. The preserve includes a number of registered historic sites, including two listed in the National Register of Historic Places: a set of three surviving 1840s outbuildings from Bleak Hall Plantation, and the prehistoric Fig Island shell rings.

South Carolina beach life at its best!! We took a little day trip to North Edisto Island where us locals gather to drink, play, relax and just getaway from the crowded beaches. That's truly the beautiful thing about this area. If you have a boat (or, even better, a friend with a boat) you can find your own little slice of deserted paradise. Botany Bay, South Carolina Plantation Tour | 10K Road Trip Vlog Day 27

Botany Bay Plantation is a great day trip from Charleston (about an hour southwest on Edisto Island). It's a historic heritage preserve and wildlife management area. The main draw is the beach - a few miles of pristine, undeveloped South Carolina coastline. Unfortunately, the beach was closed due to damage from Hurricane Matthew, but the plantation tour is still worth driving.

This is Day 27 of our 10,000 mile road trip across the US.

Botany Bay Plantation is a combination of two smaller plantations: The Bleak House Plantation and the Sea Cloud Plantation. You drive along a dirt road and stop at 15 points of interest and read about various historic sites (some of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places). Entrance to the Plantation is free, as are the guide and map. It's interesting and takes about an hour.

My 3rd stop on my South Carolina Ultimate Outsider State Park Tour! This beautiful park has a wonderful beach with lots of wooded trails to hike and bike on. I was also able to learn a little about the turtles and how to do some Low Country crabbing from the friendly staff at the park. There are also lots of camping on this campground. So if you are in the area, this state park is a must see!!
