Annecy, France. French Switzerland. Short city tour
I continue the city tour videos. While I was in Geneva I met with my friend Pierre who flies Boeing 777 in Swiss airlines. It's one of the best things in business aviation as you can visit nice places and spend time with your friends from all over the world.
Pierre called me to join him on a short trip to Annecy so I had few hour to walk around the city and film it's small streets and fly above the beautiful lake.
Annecy is is the largest city of Haute-Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in southeastern France. It lies on the northern tip of Lake Annecy, 35 kilometers (22 mi) south of Geneva.
Nicknamed the Pearl of French Alps in Raoul Blanchard's monograph describing its location between lake and mountains, the city controls the northern entrance to the lake gorge. Due to a lack of available building land between the lake and the protected Semnoz mountain, its population remained stagnant, around 50,000 inhabitants, since 1950. However, the 2017 merger with several ex-communes extended the city population to 124,401 inhabitants, and 203,078 for its urban area, 6th regional position below Annemasse, which counts 292,000 inhabitants in the northern department.
Switching from counts of Geneva's dwelling in the 13th century, to counts of Savoy's in the 14th century, the city became Savoy's capital in 1434 during the Genevois-Nemours prerogative until 1659. Its role increased in 1536, during the Calvinist Reformation in Geneva, while the bishop took refuge in Annecy. Saint Francis de Sales gave Annecy its advanced Catholic citadel role known as Counter-Reformation. The annexation of Savoy merged the city to France in 1860.
Sometimes called Venice of the Alps, this idyllic and touristic representation comes from the three canals and the Thiou river lying through the old city and whose initial role was to protect the city and to empower its handicrafts. The city experienced an industrial development in the 19th century with silk manufacturing. Some of its industrial legacy remains today with the headquarters of NTN-SNR bearings, Salomon, Entremont and Dassault Aviation.

Quadcopter over Chartreuse mountains, French Alps
ENGLISH / FRANCAIS :
ENGLISH :
This video is the third of a serial that I shoot with my Gaui 500X Quadcopter during the Toussaint vacations, which took place, in France, in the early November 2012.
This flight was done in the Entremont desert, located in the Entremont-le-Vieux district, Chartreuse mountains range (between Grenoble and Chambery cities), French Alps, South-East of France.
It was unusual to find snow there in the early November, it was following a strong snow event, a few days before.
At 1:21, you can discover, on the right, the Mount Granier.
Through the Granier pass, you can see, in the background, the Mont Blanc (White mount), highest mountain in Europe (4 810 m / 15 780 ft), located ... 90 km (55 miles) away.
The mountain which can be seen at 3:03 is called the Mont Outheran.
If you want to get informations about this cross country (45 km) and alpine skiing station, have a look to this website (only in French):
If you want to know more about the Chartreuse moutain range, here is a link to the Regional parc website :
Enjoy, comment and rate !
MUSIC : Ly-O-Lay-Ale-Loya ((The Counterclockwise Circle Dance), by Kichwas Runa.
Even if these mountains aren't located in the US wild west, I think that many landscapes of this area look similar to some of Utah. That's why I choose this beautiful and inspiring music. Even the eagle which can be heard on the music...could be heard over the Chartreuse mountains.
Respect to Native Americans...
FRANCAIS :

BE BOP A LULA !!

The Fier forms part of the commune's northwestern border. The mountains around the town of Annecy are Mont Veyrier, Le Semnoz, La Tournette, and the Parmelan.
Nearby Annecy le Vieux (Old Annecy) was a settlement from the time of the Romans. Annecy was the court of the counts of Geneva[1] or Genevois from the 10th century. It passed to the counts of Savoy in 1401. In 1444, it became the regional capital of the provinces of Genevois, Faucigny, and Beaufortain. With the advance of Calvinism, Annecy became a center for the Counter-Reformation, the old Bishopric of Geneva being transferred to it in 1535. Francis of Sales was born nearby in 1567 and served as bishop of Annecy from 1602 to 1622; his relics are preserved in the cathedral.[1] During the French Revolution, the Savoy region was conquered by France. Annecy became attached to the department of Mont Blanc, whose capital was Chambéry.[citation needed] The Catholic diocese was suppressed in 1801.[citation needed] After the Bourbon Restoration in 1815, Annecy was returned to the King of Sardinia and the Catholic diocese restored in 1822.[citation needed] When Savoy was sold to France in 1860, it became the capital of the new department of Haute-Savoie. Annecy was the site of the second round of General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) talks in 1949. In 2012, a multiple murder occurred in the Annecy area.
