Esparreguera is a municipality in Catalonia, in the province of Barcelona, Spain. It is situated in the comarca of el Baix Llobregat. Esparreguera is famous in Catalonia for staging a grand version of the play Life and Passion of Jesus Christ every year in March and April, on the Sundays before and after Easter. The play is popularly known as La Passió d'Esparreguera. As an initiative from the Municipality of Barcelona, the famous Fiesta Catalana (Catalan Festival) takes place on the Avinguda de la Catedral (Cathedral Avenue). This festival is celebrated with a wide range of folkloric activities, designed for those who want to get to know more about the Catalan roots. This is an event for you to enjoy the most beautiful traditions of the Catalan culture.A colla castellera is a group of people (men, women and children of all ages) who build human towers. This tradition was born in Tarragona two hundred years ago and has spread throughout Catalonia, Penedes, Roussillon and the Balearic Islands. Castles are always built to the sound of castellera music, which is composed by timbals and gralles that are played according to the type of the castle is being raised.

This event takes place on Avinguda de la Catedral and the Plaça Nova 1, both located in the district of Ciutat Vella, in the proximity of the most important buildings of the city.

This is a show that aims to bring the world of Catalan culture to all tourists and visitors in the city. For this reason, the events will be presented in different languages, for the viewers not to miss any detail of the performances. The main objective of this tradition is to show the diversity of manifestations of the Catalan culture.

On Saturday the 8th of September, the Castellers of Barcelona performed (a colla castellera founded in 1969), the Bordegassos de Vilanova (a colla castellera from Vilanova i la Geltrú created in 1972) and the Falcons de Barcelona (a colla castellera founded in 2003).

PARRÒQUIA DE SANT JAUME

Ni pel seu nom ni per la seva imatge l'església té relació amb l'activitat jueva que va haver a la ciutat. No obstant això, la idea canvia en saber que l'espai actual que avui ocupa l'església de Sant Jaume, al carrer Ferran, va ser durant segles l'antiga sinagoga de la ciutat.

L'església es troba alineada en aquest carrer, de gran activitat comercial, amb la resta d'edificis, bars i restaurants. Per això, és convenient aturar-se a contemplar el seu interior i reparar en els detalls de la seva façana.

El carrer Ferran s'emmarca en l'antic Call menor, la zona que es va crear en ampliar el tradicional barri jueu. Els dos barris estan comunicats actualment per la Volta del Remei o l'Arc de Santa Eulàlia, dos petits carrers on encara es poden veure alguns gravats hebreus i fins i tot els orificis de les parets en què els jueus deixaven escrites les seves pregàries.
