Fairbury is a city and county seat of Jefferson County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 3,942 at the 2010 census. Fairbury has been closely connected with railroading for much of its history. It was founded on the projected route of a railway, and grew as a shipping center. For nearly 80 years, it was the location of the Western Division headquarters of the Rock Island Railroad. Fairbury prospered with the Rock Island, and lost business and residents as the railroad declined.

1. Homestead National Monument of America Beatrice
Homestead National Monument of America, a unit of the National Park System, commemorates passage of the Homestead Act of 1862, which allowed any qualified person to claim up to 160 acres of federally owned land in exchange for five years of residence and the cultivation and improvement of the property. The Act eventually transferred 270,000,000 acres from public to private ownership. The national monument is five miles west of Beatrice, Gage County, Nebraska on a site that includes some of the first acres successfully claimed under the Homestead Act. The national monument was first included in the National Register of Historic Places on October 15, 1966 .

Amtrak's Next-Generation of High-Speed Rail

At Amtrak we know the future of the Northeast Corridor depends on the investments we make today, which is why we are excited to announce the upcoming arrival of the next-generation of high-speed rail. The new trainsets will replace the current Acela Express equipment and begin service in 2021.

Rocks of Nebraska's History

These are pictures of rocks that were found in the state of Nebraska, USA. Based on the configuration of some of the objects, they are fossilized vegetation, most likely from period that much of the earth was covered by the seas. Nebraska was covered with a shallow portion of the water. That period? Somewhere between 2 million and 99 million years ago. Think about it the next time you pick up a rock and toss it into a creek. It is part of your history.
