Well, the water here in Miyun Reservoir, well during the drought these past few years, the water was really low. Back in the beginning there was about three billion cubic litres of water. At the worst there wasn't even one billion cubic litres. These last couple years they've been bringing water in from other places to here.

So the water resources of these areas should really be used in a way that benefits the residents. So if you are to take away the water in the name of the Olympics - then I think it is a water rights issue. But right now, many citizens have been caught up in the Olympics because it has been made into such a big issue, so they are ignoring it. But these issues will well up after the Olympics are over. This could be a social crisis. This is an issue we should watch carefully.

STORYLINE:
Beijing looks ready to welcome the Olympics this summer, with new green and lush parks created specifically for the Games in August.
However, some say the Chinese capital is taking too much water, from nearby regions, in particular Hebei province, which is already chronically starved of water.
Preparations for the 2008 Olympics are nearly complete - and the city is intent on looking lush and vibrant.
The region has had eight years of continuous drought.

So now, because of the blowing sands, because they are covering more and more of the arable land with sand, there is more loss of water and soil. It's buried. The grass is buried by sand. That's all that's left. As for raising cattle, it won't work. No grass, no cattle. It just doesn't work.

Mainland China is over a quarter desert, and the sands from these deserts are shifting.
Some villages are now being consumed by sand which is threatening the lives of villagers and their livestock.
The process is known as desertification.
STORYLINE :
In the hills of Hebei Province, a few hours drive north of Beijing, the residents are experiencing changes in their landscape.
This area used to be green grasslands with flowing rivers.
Now, the sands from the deserts in Inner Mongolia to the north of the region are spreading downwind.
The sand is flowing down this valley as it heads towards Beijing and local resident Mrs Li's house is in the way.
Mrs Li lives in LangtouGou, a village of 230 people near the border of Inner Mongolia.
A few times a week Mrs Li climbs up to the level of her roof-top and shovels the sand away from her home.
Her house is the northern most in the village and takes the brunt of the sand deposits.
Every day more sand gathers around her house.

Young Man Catches Woman Falling from 11th floor with Bare Hands
A young man caught a woman falling from a building's 11th floor with bare hands on Wednesday in Enshi City in central China's Hubei Province.
The surveillance video footage showed Feng Ning running in front of the building at around 21:45. He kept changing his position while looking up to the building; seconds later, the woman fell right into his arms. Due to the huge impact, Feng was immediately knocked down on the ground and was carried to one side of the street by the locals.
Feng said he was walking out of a restaurant when he heard someone crying for help from the nearby residential building. He then saw a woman hanging from the 11th floor window.
I ran to the building, but she had already fallen before I could reach the entrance. So I got ready to catch her instead. I don't know what happened next, said Feng.
There was a loud noise, as if it was an earthquake. Then I heard the young man screaming in pain, said a local witness.
The young man cried and cried while sweating badly. He looked as if he was in a great pain, said another witness.
Feng was sent to the hospital, but the woman did not survive unfortunately.
Feng suffered injuries on his knee joints, and had a tibial plateau fracture. His anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments and the medial ligament have been dislocated, said Li Yanbing, doctor of spinal surgery department, Enshi Central Hospital.
Feng joined the army as a college student in 2013. He retired in September after full service. He said his first reaction was saving the woman's life without considering whether he would be injured.
I don't regret. It's a shame that I couldn't save her, said Feng.
