Ancient State Level Sacrificial Altar Ruins Discovered in China's Shaanxi
Chinese archaeologists have recently discovered large ancient sacrificial altar ruins in northwest China’s Shaanxi Province.
The ruins are believed to date back to the Qin and Han period (221 BC - AD 220) . The ruins are the earliest , the largest in scale and the clearest in purpose and the best preserved ever found in the outskirts of the Yongcheng, the capital city of the Qin Dynasty. It is the only sacrificial altar for a number of emperors of the Qin Dynasty and the emperor of the Western Han to take to themselves to preside over the sacrificial ceremonies, according to archaeologists.
The ruins are located near a village in the Fengxiang County. The altar is made up of two parts, an earth platform and a sacrificial pit. Archaeologists have also discovered a 20,000-square meter ruins a kilometer southeast of the earth platform. Although robbed, archaeologists have unearthed more than 1,900 pieces of jade ware, bronze carriage and horse gears as well as weapons. Some pits are empty, which, archaeologists believed, are pits for sacrificing the blood of animals.
Judging from the findings of the earth platform and sacrificial pits and related documentation, it has proved to be a fixed site for emperors of the Qing and Han dynasties to worship the god of heaven. The discovery has testified to the fact that the altar as the state highest sacrificial activities continued to exist for more than 700 years after the State of Qin moved its capital. It is, therefore, of great value in further studying the rite system and politics of the Qin and Han period.

SUMMARY
=======
Baijiu (Chinese: 白酒; pinyin: báijiǔ), also known as shaojiu, is a category of at least a dozen Chinese liquors made from grain. Báijiǔ literally means white (clear) alcohol or liquor.
Báijiǔ is a clear liquid usually distilled from fermented sorghum, although other grains may be used; some southeastern Chinese styles may employ rice or glutinous rice, while other Chinese varieties may use wheat, barley, millet, or even Job's tears (yìyǐ) in their mash bills. The jiuqu starter culture used in the production of baijiu is usually made from pulverized wheat grain or steamed rice.Because of its clarity, baijiu can appear similar to several other East Asian liquors, but it often has a significantly higher alcohol content than, for example, Japanese shōchū (25%) or Korean soju (20–45%). Despite being a white spirit, it more closely resembles a dark spirit like whisky in terms of complexity and mouthfeel.
It is the most widely consumed spirit (alcohol) in the world, with 5 billion litres sold in 2016.

2009 Yunnan Sourcing Ai Lao Jue Se Raw Pu-erh Tea
Ai Lao Jue Se (哀牢绝色) aka Ai Lao Rare Beauty is the eighth tea created under the new Yunnan Sourcing / Rui Cao Xiang label. This label is a co-project between Yunnan Sourcing “Yun Zhi Yuan” (云之源) and our Korean counter-part “Rui Cao Xiang” (瑞草香). This tea is made entirely from high altitude Ai Lao mountain tea. The Ai Lao mountains peak out at about 3200 meters, making them second only to Wu Liang Shan as the highest mountains in Simao prefecture. The Ai Lao mountain range is in the county of Jingdong which borders Chu Xiong prefecture. This tea is grown in the area of Ai Lao known as Wang Jia village (王家村) at an altitude of 2200 meters making this some of the highest altitude pu-erh in existence. The trees are healthy 200 year old trees growing naturally on steep hillsides and ridges. These tea gardens are arguably some of the remotest tea gardens in all of Yunnan. Lack of roads and access has kept the environment of this area in good condition, mao cha prices are significantly lower than comparable Banna teas, making this an affordable yet.
The tea itself is aromatic with hints of orchid aroma (兰香), and a strong mouth-feel. This tea (in its young age) is more subtle than the Wu Liang Lan Xiang cake with less bitterness and a stronger aroma. The leaves are fatter and more burly than the Wu Liang tea. It features lots of hairy buds that make it somewhat resemble its close neighbor Jinggu mountain teas. Honey and grass essences are present in this thick soupy tea!
This tea was compressed in a small tea factory near Kunming where stone presses were used. Low temperature “baking” was used to dry these cakes after the compression process thus preserving their integrity! In total just 160 kilograms of this tea has been produced.
Net Weight: 357 grams per cake (7 cakes per bamboo leaf tong)
Compression date: August 1st, 2009
Harvest time: Late March 2009
Harvest Area: Wang Jia village of Jingdong county, Simao Prefecture
Total Production amount: 448 cakes
The aroma and taste of the tea and flowers together is just exquisite. They complement each other with a spicy and sweet taste that lasts 10+ infusions.
110 grams per brick (5 bricks per bamboo leaf pack)

But first, heres our SOH focus on China

Over one thousand angry people stormed a neighboring smelting plant in Shaanxi Province Monday after 615 children tested positive for abnormal blood lead levels, said The Epoch Times.
One villager whose children tested twice the normal blood lead levels, told The Epoch Times on August 17 more than one thousand women went to the smelting plant in a rage, pushed down a long wall enclosure and smashed the windshields of about 20 cargo vehicles.
A press conference held Saturday in Fengxiang County announced that lead poisoning found in the children was linked to pollution caused by the Dongling Smelting Co.
Only children under the age of 14 were allowed to test. 163 had medium-level lead poisoning and 3 had high-level lead poisoning requiring hospitalization.

Teenager Pu Liang, 14, is in serious condition after being repeatedly beaten by fellow students and the principal at a boot camp for internet addicts in China.
The boys mother told local media that she sent her son to the camp because he was spending too much time playing games online. She says after the beatings he now has chest and kidney problems.
Earlier this month a 15 year-old boy was beaten to death at another of the military-style camps for internet addicts.
Wu Yongjing, the man who set up the military-style camp, admitted youngsters were sometimes beaten and said physical punishment was an effective way to educate children, as long as it could be controlled.

According to a study published Saturday in the Journal of Geophysical Research, over the last five decades light rainfall patterns in eastern China have been decreasing, and air pollution is to blame, said NTDTV.
The decrease in light rainfall is proving to be just as damaging as the heavy rainfall sweeping across eastern China recently, with heavy rains washing away crops and lack of light rain causing devastating droughts.
A team of Chinese, American and European researchers looked at 50 years worth of data trying to see a causal relationship between air pollution and rainfall. Results showed that overall rainfall remained the same, but there has been more heavy rain and less nourishing light rain with increased pollution as the cause.
Parts of Chinas wheat-growing northern regions are currently hit by the worst drought since the 1950s.

South Korea has postponed the launch of its first space rocket-a two-stage vehicle- because of technical problems.
The rocket had been set to launch on Wednesday from the Naro space complex, however, the countdown was halted just eight minutes before lift-off.
The Korea Space Launch Vehicle-1 (KSLV-1), which has been developed with the help of Russia, is seeking to place in orbit a 200 lb satellite.
South Korea has already launched 10 indigenously produced satellites on other countries rockets. In April last year, Seoul sent its first astronaut into space aboard a Russian Soyuz rocket.

Bombings shocked Baghdad killing 75 people and wounding 310 others, making Wednesday one of the deadliest days since the U.S. handed over security of the country to Iraqis.
In total there were six explosions within an hour.
