Ganado is a chapter of the Navajo Nation and census-designated place in Apache County, Arizona, United States. The population was 1,210 at the 2010 census. Ganado is part of the Fort Defiance Agency, of the Bureau of Indian Affairs; and is the delegate seat for the district that encompasses the Jeddito, Cornfields, Ganado, Kinlichee, Steamboat communities at the Navajo Nation Council. The Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site in Ganado is maintained as an example of a 19th-century trading post.

1. Canyon de Chelly National Monument Chinle
Canyon de Chelly National Monument was established on April 1, 1931, as a unit of the National Park Service. Located in northeastern Arizona, it is within the boundaries of the Navajo Nation and lies in the Four Corners region. Reflecting one of the longest continuously inhabited landscapes of North America, it preserves ruins of the indigenous tribes that lived in the area, from the Ancestral Puebloans to the Navajo. The monument covers 83,840 acres and encompasses the floors and rims of the three major canyons: de Chelly, del Muerto, and Monument. These canyons were cut by streams with headwaters in the Chuska Mountains just to the east of the monument. None of the land is federally owned. Canyon de Chelly is one of the most visited national monuments in the United States.

The Painted Desert is a United States desert of badlands in the Four Corners area running from near the east end of Grand Canyon National Park and southeast into Petrified Forest National Park. It is most easily accessed in the north portion of Petrified Forest National Park. The Painted Desert is known for its brilliant and varied colors, that not only include the more common red rock, but even shades of lavender. The Painted Desert was named by an expedition under Francisco Vázquez de Coronado on his 1540 quest to find the Seven Cities of Cibola, which he located some 40 miles east of Petrified Forest National Park. The Canyon De Chelly is a land full of myth and legend and also a national monument of Native Indian culture in the midst of today's Navajo reservation. Archaeologists have discovered that the deep, rocky valleys of this region were first inhabited by Native Indian tribes around a thousand years ago. The canyon offered natural protection against hostile attack and during the dry months of summer also provided a good supply of water. Today, numerous impressive cliff dwellings indicate the golden cultural period of the famous historic Indians, the Anasazi. Around four hundred years after the sudden and mysterious disappearance of the Anasazi, their ancient dwellings were occupied by the Navajo. However, the tranquil atmosphere of the canyon did not last forever as it was once the scene of various bloody battles between the Navajo and the Spanish.The White House is one of the most famous cliff dwellings and archaeological sites in the Canyon De Chelly and is open to the public. Various impressive petroglyphs have been found close to such settlements and many of these rock paintings date back to the time of the Anasazi.Few regions in the United States manage to unite both Native Indian history and culture with a natural landscape such as that of the Canyon De Chelly.

Phoenix to Chinle, AZ - part 1 of USA 2017

Great vacation, the USA keeps surprising me, two times in a row now. The people, the towns, it's history and of course, the land itself.

In this first part we traveled to:

Next part we'll be traveling through Utah, starting with Monument Valley, and then into Colorado, where we'll be going down the Million Dollar Highway and back into Utah again, to discover Arches National Park and Dead Horse Point. Stay tuned!

Special Presentation of Good Old Days RV Travels with Ma & Pa, featuring video travels of the 80's & 90's and how it was back then in days gone by. This video was taken 10/1989 of US-191 entering Utah on Navajo Nation land and crosses mostly desolate parts of the state to Blanding camping) and beyond. Overall the highway nears the 10,000-foot (3,000 m) level in 2 places in Utah, over Indian Summit near Price and again while crossing the Uintah Mountains near Vernal. US-191 directly or indirectly serves a number of parks in eastern Utah: Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Hovenweep National Monument, Natural Bridges National Monument, Capitol Reef National Park, Canyonlands National Park, Arches National Park, Dead Horse Point State Park, Dinosaur National Monument, and Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. US-191 forms part of the Trail of the Ancients. The state has designated the portion from Helper to Duchesne as the Indian Canyon Scenic Byway, a Utah Scenic Byway.

Tombstone is a historic city in Cochise County, Arizona, United States, founded in 1879 by prospector Ed Schieffelin in what was then Pima County, Arizona Territory. It became one of the last boomtowns in the American frontier. The town grew significantly into the mid-1880s as the local mines produced $40 to $85 million in silver bullion, the largest productive silver district in Arizona. Its population grew from 100 to around 14,000 in less than seven years. It is best known as the site of the famous fight at the O.K. Corral and presently draws most of its revenue from tourism.

Montana Roadtrip Timelapse

Join me on a 5,700 mi. journey which takes us from Illinois to Montana and back, passing through Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, South Dakota, Nebraska, and Iowa over the course of three weeks.

A frame was captured every 10 seconds to make this timelapse. At highway speeds, that translates to about 4.5 miles per second. The entire trip takes about 26 minutes. I took this trip over the course of 3 weeks and most of the driving portions are represented here. I excluded short distances or any period of time I stayed in the same area.
