The Gravensteen is a medieval castle in the Belgian city of Ghent. The current castle dates to 1180 and was the residence of the Counts of Flanders until 1353. It was subsequently re-purposed as a court, prison, mint, and even as a cotton factory. It was restored over 1893-1903 and is now a museum and a major landmark in the city.

What to do in GHENT | Belgium Day Trip

Every traveller should have Ghent on their list of cities to see. A quick train ride from Brussels, this ancient medieval town has no shortage of sights to see. A Grand Castle, old churches and a 91 metre high Belfry of Ghent. The canal through the old town included boat rides and there are a handful of fantastic museums.

The weather started off great then quickly turned into rain, however, I made the most of it. When the rain wouldn't cease, I had some beer and waffles. Ghent, Belgium is a must see!

I recommend to try the noses of Ghent candy, waffles, hot chocolate and of course the Belgian beer.
