Local handicrafts make for great souvenirs as traditional artisans are very good at basketwork, fabric weaving and mask making. Great buys can be found in small curio markets in town, particularly Bujumbura’s Av de Stade, a street lined with souvenir stalls. Shopping should be an integral part of your tour of Burundi, especially if you are fond of collecting art and crafts. Chaussee Prince Louis Rwagazore (also in Bujumbura) is another interesting place to visit. This small marketplace is across from the iconic Library St Paul.

Bujumbura is def a place to visit, don't listen to the media or these lonely planet books as they really don't know what there talking about!! Bujumbura, yes is not the safest place in this world but is safer than most big cities in western world that's for sure!!! I would say visit this place and I promise you it will be the best place u seen in a very long time!! IBujumbura offers some of the best beaches in Africa along Lake Tanganyika, Beautiful mountain views, water falls, cafes, best restaurants in East Africa, night clubs, sports, Water sports, Golf course, Zoo, Musiums,culture (Burundi Drummers)and not to mention the beautiful BURUNDAISE(IAN)...
So I would say give as a chance??
