In the 1890s, the tiny Rockbridge County community of Goshen was being transformed into the Iron Center of the South. At the heart of town an elaborate steel bridge was constructed to be a symbol of the wealth that awaited investors. Within three years the boom went bust. Over time, icons of Goshen's heyday disappeared—except for the steel bridge. But more than a century of use had left the structure a rusting relic. This 2004 video traces the unique history of the Goshen Bridge, its importance to the community, and VDOT's work to preserve and restore this important landmark.
Indian Rocks off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Amherst County, Virginia
A short quarter mile trail from the Blue Ridge Parkway leads you to this very interesting boulder field called Indian Rocks. This site is near Indian Gap on the Blue Ridge Parkway along the Rockbridge-Amherst County line...I am not even totally sure which county it is in but I believe that it is located on the Amherst side of the line. Very interesting to find the huge boulders piled up in the middle of an otherwise clear and open forest...some of the huge rocks just barely balanced in positions that leave you wondering what forces placed them here. A very unique location. This video was shot New Year's Day 2014.
