Gostivar , is a city in the Republic of Macedonia, located in the upper Polog valley region. It is one of the largest municipalities in the country with a population of 81,042, and the town also covers 1.341 square kilometres . Gostivar has road and railway connections with the other cities in the region, such as Tetovo, Skopje, Kičevo, Ohrid, and Debar. A freeway was built in 1995, from Gostivar to Tetovo, 24 km long. Gostivar is the seat of Gostivar Municipality.

1. Monastery St. Jovan Bigorski Gostivar
The Monastery of Saint Jovan Bigorski is a Macedonian Orthodox monastery located in the western part of Macedonia, near the road connecting the towns of Debar and Gostivar. The monastery church is dedicated to St. John the Baptist. One of its most valuable treasures is the iconostasis, created by Petre Filipovic - Garkata from the nearby village of Gari, and considered one of the finest examples of wood-carved iconostases.

4. Markovi Kuli (Marko's Towers) Prilep
Markovi Kuli or Marko's Towers are situated to the northwest of Prilep, Macedonia just above the village of Varoš. The towers named after Serbian medieval Prince Marko Mrnjavčević are located on a 120–180 m high hill, surrounded by steep slopes covered with minute granite stones. The upper part of the former settlement can be reached from its north and south side. During the four-decade archaeological research, remnants indicating the existence of an early antique settlement — Keramija, were found. In the Roman period, this small village expanded into the southwest, a fact suggested by the several marble ornaments of an early Christian basilica. Mavrovo Lake is situated in the Mavrovo region, in the Mavrovo and Rostuša municipality of the Republic of Macedonia, less than 100 km from Skopje. Abundant with trout, Lake Mavrovo is used for recreational activities such as swimming, boating and fishing during the summer. An additional point of interest is the half-submerged church in the lake. Spreading over an area of about 780 square kilometres , the Mavrovo National Park features deep canyons, snowy peaks and blue lakes combine with dense forests that abound with diverse wildlife. Macedonia, is a country located in the central Balkan peninsula in Southeast Europe. It is one of the successor states of the former Yugoslavia, from which it declared independence in 1991.
It became a member of the United Nations in 1993 but, as a result of a dispute with Greece over its name, it was admitted under the provisional reference of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, sometimes abbreviated as FYROM.
A landlocked country, the Republic of Macedonia is bordered by Kosovo to the northwest, Serbia to the north, Bulgaria to the east, Greece to the south and Albania to the west.
It constitutes approximately the northwestern half of the larger geographical region of Macedonia, which also comprises parts of Greece and Bulgaria. The country's capital is Skopje, with 506,926 inhabitants according to the 2002 census. Other cities include Bitola, Kumanovo, Prilep, Tetovo, Ohrid, Veles, Štip, Kočani, Gostivar, Kavadarci and Strumica. It has more than 50 lakes and sixteen mountains higher than 2,000 m (6,562 ft). Macedonia is a member of the UN and the Council of Europe. Since December 2005 it has also been a candidate for joining the European Union and has applied for NATO membership.
Twelfth Century Church of St. Panteleimon, Macedonia
The small Twelfth Century Byzantine Church of St. Panteleimon, patron saint of physicians, was constructed in 1164 (and rebuit, and destroyed, and rebuilt - unfortunately like most churches in Macedonia). As guide Goran stated in the beginning of this tour, If you have no interest in churches, Macedonia is not the place for you. Well... Churches do start to bore until a tidbit of information turns the tide. Oh, all right, two tidbits of information.
1. Fresco images here show EXPRESSION on their faces and realistic touches. Before this time, faces were always painted straight on without expression; and
2. The Church's stucco decoration is depicted on the reverse of a Macedonian 50 Denar banknote.

Skopje, Macedonia - Old Bazaar
After you leave the center of Skopje, Macedonia and cross the old stone bridge, you will find yourself in the city's Turkish quarter, where old world shops filled with jewelry, clothing, food and black market goods are being sold by hundreds of men, women, children, and street-side vendors.
This is video from a quick run through of the old bazaar. Sorry for the shaky camera. I was walking, trying to hide the video camera, and protect myself from pick pockets all at the same time.
