9 Unique & Unusual Travel Destinations that actually exist
Many travel destinations offer an amenity or two that other places don’t – but there are only a few locations in the world that offer a truly unique experience. Here are some places that could be a reference for your vacation.
1. Avenue of the Baobabs, Madagascar
The Avenue of the Baobabs is a prominent group of baobab trees lining the dirt road between Morondava and Belon’i Tsiribihina in the Menabe region in western Madagascar. Its striking landscape draws travelers from around the world, making it one of the most visited locations in the region. It has been a center of local conservation efforts, and was granted temporary protected status in July 2007 by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Forests, the first step toward making it Madagascar’s first natural monument.
2. Glow Worm Caves, New Zealand
Waitomo, New Zealand is famous for one thing. Every year, heaps upon heaps of travelers come here to see the infamous glow worms that line the ceilings of the nearby caves. The glow worms emit a phosphorescent glow that shines from the roofs of the caves like a starry night.
3.The Great Dune of Pyla, France
At 60 km (37 mi) from Bordeaux, in the South of the Arcachon Bay, it is possible to visit the highest dune in Europe, the Great Dune of Pyla (or Pilat). This dune reaches a height of 107m. At this summit, the view is spectacular with the ocean coast, the inlet of the Bay, the large pine forest and, when the sky is very clear, the Pyrenees Range.
4. Ice Hotel, Sweden
Although there are ice hotels in Finland, Québec, Canada, Norway and Romania, the hotel at Jukkasjärvi, Sweden is the oldest and most famous of these frozen inns. Located 200 km (124 mi) north of the Arctic Circle in a little village in Lapland, this hotel is world famous for its dramatic scenery, and its yearly rebirth, like an icy phoenix.
5. “The Polar Bear Capital of the World”, Canada
Churchill is a town on the shore of Hudson Bay in Manitoba, Canada. It is most famous for having the largest population of polar bears that is south of the Arctic Circle. They move toward the shore from inland in the autumn, leading to the town’s nickname “Polar Bear Capital of the World” that has helped its growing tourism industry. Tourists can safely view polar bears from specially modified buses known as tundra buggies. Use of the buggies helps sustain local tourism, but can also cause damage to the local ecosystem when driven outside the established trails. October and early November are the most feasible times to see polar bears, thousands of which wait on the vast peninsula until the water freezes on Hudson Bay so that they can return to hunt their primary food source, ringed seals.
6. Antarctica
Ice. Snow. Water. Penguins. The allure of Antarctica. This cold, southernmost continent is an increasingly popular tourist destination. Its vast landscape of ice and snow, as well as its wildlife population, attract nature-loving vacationers and some tourists who enjoy activities like kayaking or cross-country skiing. Others simply float through the area onboard a cruise. Whatever the reason people come to Antarctica, they’re coming.
7. Sky Walk, Costa Rica
The Sky Walk is a well-thought-out combination of suspension bridges and walking trails through the Monteverde rainforest. These bridges span canyons and drainages, and bring visitors face to face with the upper level of the forest canopy.
8. Blue Lagoon, Iceland
The Blue Lagoon in Iceland is something which travelers should not miss. It also called “The Land of Fire and Ice“, because you are swimming in mud waters while there is snowing outside.
The Blue Lagoon, geothermal spa, is one of the most visited attractions in Iceland. The steamy waters are part of a lava formation. The warm waters are rich in minerals like silica and sulphur and bathing in the Blue Lagoon is reputed to help some people suffering from skin diseases such as psoriasis.
9. Bioluminescent Musquito Bay, Puerto Rico
Mosquito Bay, also known as the Bioluminescent Bay, on the south coast of Vieques is undoubtedly the healthiest and best example of a bioluminescent bay in the world. With the slightest agitation of the water tiny bioluminescent creatures emit an electric bluish white light. Fish swimming in the bay leave a bioluminescent trail as do boats, raindrops and people swimming.

- Parque Nacional Cahuita.
- Playa Cocles
- Playa Manzanillo
- Playa Punta Uva
- Playa Bonita
This video was made from varios amounts of footage I have collected over the years from shorts periods of time I have visited the Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica. Many people in Costa Rica don't visit this place much because they have the wrong impression that Limón is unsafe, but they don't know how much they are missing from this beautiful place. I wish I had much more footage to show from here since this is just a glimpse, but hopefully, someday I'll make a well deserved video of the entire Caribbean Coast.
Most of the shots were taken in Downtown Limón, however there are some shots from other places on the Caribbean Coast like:
- Cahuita National Park
- Cocles Beach
- Manzanillo Beach
- Punta Uva Beach
- Bonita Beach

- Drone DJI Mavic Air
- GoPro Hero 7 black
Tortuguero, Costa Rica (HD)
Tortuguero, Costa Rica Tours | Evergreen lodge | Visit Tortuguero
Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide
Tortuguero is one of the most remote places in Costa Rica and is only accessible by boat or plane. The major public road/river routes to get here are through Moín (close to Limón), La Pavona (north of Cariari) and Caño Blanco (accessible through Siquirres).
There is an inexpensive public bus/boat route that can be used to get from San Jose to Tortuguero. Take the 9:00AM direct bus from from San Jose to Cariari, which leaves from the Gran Caribe bus terminal. The bus arrives at the long distance bus terminal in Cariari around 11:00AM. Sometimes the bus to La Pavona/La Suerte meets you there, but otherwise walk 5 blocks north to the local bus terminal and buy a bus ticket to La Pavona/La Suerte. This bus leaves at 11:30AM and takes you to the river at La Pavona/La Suerte, where you transfer to a public boat that will reach Tortuguero around 3:00PM. Inside the restaurant is a ticket office where you must buy a ticket before boarding the boat. Use the restrooms here, as the boat trip can take up to 2 hours if the river is low.
The public bus has been robbed by armed robbers at least twice. It is advised to travel together at the same time with other tourist buses and boats, when you have a police escort, because a gang of armed robbers has attacked solo buses. A tourist boat traveling alone from Tortuguero to Pavona dock was robbed on December 9, 2013 by armed robbers on the river.
To return, catch the 5:30AM, 11:00AM or 2:30PM public boat from Tortuguero and follow these directions in reverse. The total cost one-way should be around $8 -- $2.40 for the bus to Cariari, $2 for the bus to La Pavona/La Suerte and $5.20 for the boat to Tortuguero. Beware of touts selling packaged trips along the way, who will tell you that the boats aren't running, the hotels are full, the route isn't safe, and so on -- anything to get you to buy into their deals. Touts also meet the water taxi in Tortuguero and will offer to help you find a hotel.
A quicker but more expensive option is to fly into Tortuguero. Nature Air offer daily flights from San José, out of Tobias Bolanos International Airport (SYQ) in Pavas at 6:15AM and arrives in Tortuguero at 6:45AM. The return flight arrives in Pavas at 7:20am.
If you choose to stay at one of the lodges, land/water transportation to and from Tortuguero is usually included in the package rates.
