Places to see in ( Cantabria - Spain ) Cueva El Soplao
El Soplao is a cave located in the municipalities of Rionansa, Valdáliga and Herrerías in Cantabria, Spain. It is considered unique for the quality and quantity of geological formations in its 17 miles length, 6 of which are open to the public.
In it are formations such as helíctites (eccentric stalactites defying gravity) and curtains (draperies, or sheets of calcite, sometimes translucent, hanging from the ceiling). Its formation dates back to the Mesozoic, in particular the Cretaceous period 240 million years ago. The entrance is at 540 metres in the Sierra Soplao Arnero.
The cave was accidentally discovered during drilling for mining, subsequently being exploited for the extraction of minerals. During its operation, many local families were supported by the income they got from the mining, combined with farming livestock. After decades of neglect, speleology, and in particular the Cantabria University Speleology Club since 1975, have discovered its true geological value.
On July 1, 2005 the Government of Cantabria opened it to the public and publicised it internationally, after development for tourism and protection rules prohibiting any further activity by the discoverering club. Research goes on, resulting in the study of amber deposits, the recognition of underground stromatolites formed by manganese-oxidising bacteria, and a new mineral form, zaccagnaite-3R.
The cave recently started holding music concerts. Artists like Bertín Osborne or Nando Agüeros have played inside the cave for hundreds of people in 2016. El Soplao is just one of at least 6,500 underground caves in Cantabria.

Day 30 Camino De Santiago. Full Journey. Herrerias-Filloval 25.6K
Top rated documented journey showing El Camino De Santiago-Frances.
In this video I walk the sacred trek up to O’Cebrierro. This is the place where pilgrims give thanks for the of safely getting this far on their trek. It was a stunning view of the valley and and mountains. I loved every single step. As always. My heart explodes with gratitude for my health, this opportunity and for the lessons I’m learning on the way. The history and thought of millions who have come before me on this very hill was moving. Counting my blessings, always. Thanks for the love, Alaskan Pilgrim - Jeanee
Finisterre. The end of my Journey. Ultreia! Top rated documented journey El Camino De Santiago
From the beginning, the end of my pilgrimage was always to walk on the beach at Finesterre and see a sunset at the lighthouse. It was moving to me to see so many Camino shells washing up and laying on the beach. This is where it all began. My heart was full to overflowing for the blessings I felt, arriving safe and healthy and for the experiences, lessons and people I met along The Way. A glorious end to an amazing journey. Thanks for the love, Alaskan Pilgrim- Jeanee

Day 18-19 Camino De Santiago. Full Journey foot washing and communal meal at San Nicholas a best
Top rated documented journey showing El Camino De Santiago-Frances.
In this video I include two incredible days. One of my favorites so far. I stayed the night in a historic place that has cared for pilgrims for 1000 years, San Nicolas Hospitalero. It was later turned into a church. It sleeps 12 lucky people and I happened to be one of the 12. Eight countries were represented as we sat around the long table by candlelight with laughter and talking, united in humanity and heart. They performed the ancient ceremony of washing of the feet, to send us the rest of the way to Santiago. It was a warm and very moving day and night there. I will never forget the people I met.
My body is feeling better, stronger, my feet are doing great. As I walk the. Mesata, I love the openness and soft colors. It goes on and on and there is nothing to do but get lost in your thoughts. One man said, he was on this to “get his mind right”. That’s exactly what it does. At the end of the day, my body aches, much like a toothache and headache on my whole body. The endless pounding is so hard, but it wouldn’t be as rewarding if this journey were easy. I, along with everyone else, hobbles into the small villages at the end of the long trek of each day, longing for a warm meal, a hot shower and a soft bed. it’s the little things in life that matter, nothing else. When you break it all down, we are the same, every one of us, where ever we are from. How comforting that is. Thanks for the love, Jeanee-Alaskan Pilgrim.
