The Bergkirchweih, also called the mountain or Frankish called Berch, is a folk festival in the Middle Franconian university town Erlangen, the year at Pentecost held. The Bergkirchweih begins on Thursday before Pentecost at 17 clock with the initial pass (performed by the mayor in the stands of a yearly changing beer cellar ) together with beer tasting and ends on Monday evening twelve days on a traditional barrel Funeral at Erich Keller. The Bergkirchweih there since 1755. Today, the folk festival in Erlangen is considered fifth season. Not least the fact that many former citizens of the town plan, the Bergkirchweih for reunion with old acquaintances fixed, gives the festival an annual regular visitors amounts of about one million people in twelve days. That's ten times the population of Erlangen. The Bergkirchweih thus belongs together with the Oktoberfest in Munich, the folk festival in Nuremberg, the Michaelis fair in Fürth and the Gäubodenfest in Straubing of the five largest carnivals in Bavaria.
In 2005, 250 years of the Bergkirchweih were celebrated. Nevertheless, even if the party actually existed for 250 years, it did not occur every year. An Oktoberfest or beer festival is a festive event related to the beer during which a wide range of brands or kinds of beer is offered by simple tasting or serious consumption. There is also the opportunity to eat but also to play games or attend music concerts. This type of holiday can be limited to a village animated or otherwise become the most popular place of gathering in the world, such as the Oktoberfest. The Anglo-Saxons also use the term Beer Exhibition or Beerex, although it refers more a craft exhibition focusing on the varieties of beers and breweries or with little recreational activities.
The Oktoberfest annually attracts more than six million visitors. Guests coming many from abroad, mainly from Italy, the USA, Japan and Australia. In recent years there was a trend to dress : an increasing number of visitors went meadow with Lederhosen and Dirndl there.
Excessive alcohol consumption of a part of the meadow visitors has long been discussed. To avoid that, the mood at the Oktoberfest more and more of the atmosphere at the Ballermann (Mallorca) balances, developed in 2005 the responsible organizers, the concept of Quiet Oktoberfest. The tent owners are encouraged to play only traditional brass bands to 18:00 clock and the music volume to 85 dB (A) SPL limit. This is to keep the Oktoberfest for families and older visitors attractive. After 18 clock also be hit and pop music played. From a part of Munich and the guests, and some in the press, the festival will however now called annoying Massenbesäufnis which has nothing to do with a folk festival.
The Oktoberfest is in Bairischen mostly Wiesn called (Theresienwiese). The genus of Oktoberfest is female ( the Oktoberfest, in Bavarian d'Wiesn ), the number is singular. Since this is at Wiesn the Bavarian form of meadow (singular) and not of meadows are (plural), is an apostrophe ( Wies'n, suggests the plural word Wies e n with exuberant e) in the case not necessary. The term Wiesn is used next to the Oktoberfest for the Theresienwiese itself; so you can go outside the Oktoberfest time on the Wiesn. During the Oktoberfest, the Theresienwiese is in official parlance as Festwiese referred, for example, mounted on the specially for the festival signs of public transportation.
At the Oktoberfest, there are nearly 200 Showmen, of which almost 80 rides. Many fairground families are represented since the early 20th century at the Oktoberfest. Popular, nostalgic attractions every year new driving modes that on the stand most modern technology make it a thrill. Due to the often cool weather in October the Oktoberfest starts since 1872 in September. Opened is always on Saturday after September 15, the end of the festival is traditionally the first Sunday in October.
