The Englische Garten (German for English Garden) in Munich, Germany with almost 4 km², belongs to the largest parks in the world which may be used publicly by everyone. It was designed by Friedrich Ludwig von Sckell for the Palatine Elector Carl Theodor and his successor Joseph Maximilian I.
Various leisure activities can be used; it is cozy to enjoy a beer at the Chinese Tower or at the Seehaus, or you just sit on a park bench, watching the nature.
The Monopteros, a round Greek style temple on a hill often serves as a meeting point and as viewing platform for the skyline of the city center. The Schönfeldwiese (Schönfeld meadow) in front of the Monopterus and the Schwabinger Bach, a small river in the English Garden, are known as nude sunbathing areas during the summer months.
For dog lovers, the English Garden is a paradise. The landscape is in large parts almost unspoiled, primarily in the northern area in the Hirschau between middle ring and the Aumeister beer garden.
The park is very popular for horse riders, even if they only lead their horse.

Für Hundefreunde ist der Englische Garten ein Paradies. In weiten Teilen ist die Landschaft fast naturbelassen, vor allem im nördlichen Bereich, in der Hirschau zwischen mittlerem Ring und dem Biergarten Aumeister.
Auch bei Reitern ist das Gelände sehr beliebt und sei es nur um sein Pferd spazieren zu führen.

In my opinion, Munich's Best Beer Garden is the Wirsthaus at BavariaPark, and believe me, that is high praise. Munich is home to some of the best beer gardens, large & small, indoors & out. This one really struck me because of it's laidback locals-only atmosphere, naturally beautiful landscape, very good food and of course, Munich's favorite Augustiner beer on tap. It's also just steps away from the Oktoberfest fair grounds.
They also have the upscale Kongresshalle bar next door, perfect for the transition from a few steins and food by day, to a classy cocktail & dancing by night. Put this on your itinerary for Munich and plan to stay a while. :)
Munich - English Garden - South Part
The #English #Garden is a large public park in the centre of #Munich, Bavaria, stretching from the city centre to the northeastern city limits. It was created in 1789 by Sir Benjamin Thompson (1753–1814), later Count Rumford (Reichsgraf von Rumford), for Prince Charles Theodore, Elector of Bavaria. Thompson's successors, Reinhard von Werneck (1757–1842) and Friedrich Ludwig von Sckell (1750–1823), advisers on the project from its beginning, both extended and improved the park.
With an area of 3.7 km2 (1.4 sq mi) (370 ha or 910 acres), the Englischer Garten is one of world's largest urban public parks. The name refers to its English garden form of informal landscape, a style popular in England from the mid-18th century to the early 19th century and particularly associated with Capability Brown.

Das Kloster Hirsau war ein Benediktinerkloster in Hirsau im Nordschwarzwald. Meist meint man damit die Anlage St. Peter und Paul. Im weiteren Sinn umfasst die Bezeichnung jedoch auch deren Vorläufer.
Hirsau (vormals auch Hirschau) war zeitweise eines der bedeutendsten Klöster Deutschlands. Es diente der cluniazensischen Reformbewegung sehr früh als deutscher Stützpunkt. Von hier ging eine Reihe von Klostergründungen aus, aber auch die Erneuerung bestehender Gemeinschaften nach der sogenannten Hirsauer Reform. Zum Zeitpunkt seiner Errichtung im späten 11. Jahrhundert war St. Peter und Paul das baulich größte Kloster im deutschsprachigen Raum. Während des Pfälzischen Erbfolgekriegs brannte die Anlage 1692 aus und verfiel dann.

Hirsau Abbey, formerly known as Hirschau Abbey, was once one of the most important Benedictine abbeys of Germany. It is located in the Hirsau borough of Calw on the northern slopes of the Black Forest mountain range, in the present-day state of Baden-Württemberg. In the 11th and 12th century, the monastery was a centre of the Cluniac Reforms, implemented as Hirsau Reforms in the German lands. The complex was devastated during the War of the Palatine Succession in 1692 and not rebuilt.

This Austrian Alpine Coaster was the World's longest (3.535km - approx 2.2 miles) when I rode it in 2005, and I rode this just a couple of hours before riding the very scary single pipe Sommerrodelbahn at Mieders - see
The published ride time is 9 minutes, but without using the brakes until the very end my brakeman Darren Hoy and I completed the ride in just 5 minutes (average speed 42.5kph, 26mph).
