Ancient Roman Spa Resort of Hisar (Hisarya).
Hisar (also known as Hisarya) is located on the northern edge of the Thracian Plain, approximately 40km north of Bulgaria's second largest city, Plovdiv. It dates back thousands of years to the time when it was used as a Spa by the Romans and named after the Emperor Augustus.
Today it still possesses some amazing Roman ruins namely, the City wall which has survived amazingly well but there are also several other Roman sites which are dotted around the small town.
Hisar is still used as a Spa and there are several large hotels which offer Spa facilities and swimmign pools and which are popular with people from Plovdiv, looking to escape the heat of the city in the summer.
A beautiful place with a well kept garden and many pleasant spots to eat.
