Why Copenhagen Is The Number One City To Travel To in 2019
Add Copenhagen, Denmark to your bucket list for this year. Lonely Planet named it the number one city to visit in 2019, so explore the city's culture, history, and food scenes. With its new initiatives, diversifying food scene and modern architecture, there's no better time to start planning a trip to Copenhagen.
Bailey Freeman, destinaton editor for Lonely Planet, explains why Copenhagen received the top spot for Best in Travel. Copenhagen has something for every traveler.
FOOD: Noma, the world-famous restaurant, has new premises with an urgan garden. Noma is responsible for pioneering the new Nordic cuisine, which has influenced food all over the world. Food halls, like Reffen, are developing. Consider trying some of Copenhagen's popular dishes like rød pølse, which is like sausage; smørrebrød, which is like an open-faced sandwich; or frikadeller, which are Danish meatballs.
ARCHITECTURE: Copenhagen is known for all of its amazing historic buildings in Nyhavn and The Round Tower. Now, modern architecture is coming to the forefront, too. You can see more modern installations in public spaces, like Circle Bridge. There's a dedication to both form and function and design. Trampolines are even embedded in sidewalks, and urban parks are filled with art.
SUSTAINABILITY: Copenhagen has demonstrated a dedication to sustainability. Finding environmentally friendly ways to explore the city, like by riding bikes. It's a bicycle-friendly city, and it has more bikes than people.
Copenhagen can get expensive to visit, but there are ways to get around that. Go to a tourism office and get the Copenhagen Card, which will give you access to museums, attractions across the city for free or at discounted prices. If you want to try top-end food, go for lunch. At lot of times, menus are just as inspired but are at a lower price.

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling! So we extended our 1 year trip to now FOUR years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

Copenhagen Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
Welcome to Copenhagen, Denmark! This stunning place is also called “The City of Spires,” and after arriving here, you’ll see why.
A tour of Copenhagen reveals cobblestone streets, beautiful canals, and many 16th and 17th-century buildings crowned by the aforementioned spires. Don’t let the archaic exterior of these buildings fool you; they house very modern restaurants, theaters, and shops, and you can easily spend days sampling seafood and coffees at the various eateries.
One of Copenhagen’s most beloved attractions is Tivoli Gardens, a theme park that dates back to 1843. Watch a pantomime, ride one of the oldest roller coasters, or just enjoy a trip in a dragon boat. After a few hours at Tivoli Gardens, continue your Copenhagen sightseeing in the city proper. Copenhagen is like something out of a fairy tale, full of multicolored houses and boats that tie up at Copenhagen’s wharves.
Next, rent a bike. With almost 250 miles of bicycle lanes, getting around two wheels is a healthy, athletic way to get to know the city. Ride your bike to Nyhavn, a waterfront district that dates back to the 17th century. This is the spot to make friends at the local pubs, or to simply sit and watch the boats go back and forth over the waters of the Oresund. Nyhavn is also home to “The Little Mermaid,” a statue fashioned after the titular character in the Hans Christian Andersen tale. Make sure you bring your camera, as the mermaid is a popular place for a photo op.
