On The Road - Driving and Navigating Costa Rica
Costa Rica's varied landscape -- of mountains, volcanoes and beaches -- lends itself toward every type of experience. One of the best ways to encounter this country is by renting a car and taking a road trip. This video explores the motion and scenery of a drive through Costa Rica.
Costa Rica's roads can be windy and slow, but they are beautiful. While driving here you'll pass pastured hillsides and tropical forests. You'll navigate around the base of volcanoes and enjoy flat stretches of road along both the Pacific and Caribbean coasts. If you're looking for a scenic drive, this is it.
Driving in Costa Rica, however, can be difficult. Mountainous roads often have hairpin turns and bad conditions. Signposts are sometimes lacking, which makes it easy to take a wrong turn and get lost (especially if you're not using GPS). And given the serpentine nature of some roads, travel time can be long.
But the benefits of your own wheels are obvious: freedom, flexibility, and the ability to move. For patient travelers, driving in Costa Rica can be awesome.

Crocodile Bridge, Playa Carrillo, Costa Rica
There is a small tidal river draining out of the mangroves at the end of the beach. There are signs saying that you may not want to get in the water here. 2 crocodiles have taken up permanent residence around the bridge.
They seem pretty well fed and you would probably have to fall into their mouth to make it worth eating you....but I didn't get close enough to find out.
