Mexico's BEST Island: ISLA HOLBOX
We couldn't have picked a better place to end our travels in Mexico. Isla Holbox quickly became one of our favourite destinations in Mexico and we loved exploring the island. One of our favourite things to do was rent a golf cart to visit the beautiful blue beaches and the crystal clear waters. We loved the laid-back feel of Isla Holbox and think it's a great island to explore and relax at.

Isla Holbox, Mexico: How to get to Mexico's best kept secret!

Welcome to Isla Holbox, Mexico!
Open to read more….
I went on a girl’s trip with my sister for her birthday to Isla Holbox! This truly is one of Mexico's best kept secrets! Check out how we got there...although simple enough, you still need a plan!
Holbox (black hole in Yucatec Maya) is an island in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, located on the north coast of the Yucatán Peninsula. It is approximately 41.84 kilometres (26.00 miles) long and 1.5 kilometres (0.9 miles) wide, and it is separated from the mainland by 10 km of shallow lagoonthat is home to flamingos, pelicans and other rich birdlife. Holbox Island is part of the Municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas and also part of the Yum Balam Biosphere Reserve.
The island is accessed by ferry from the mainland town of Chiquila,[4] and has virtually no cars, with transport by most residents and tourists by golf cart or moped. A small airline, Flights Holbox , Aerosaab, flies tours to Holbox from Cancún and Playa del Carmen; there is even a small airstrip to accommodate five-seater, 13 seater Cessna aircraft.

Things To Do In Isla Holbox | Mexico
Video on Things To Do in Isla Holbox. This includes swimming with whale sharks at the beginning of the season in June. A beautiful small untouched island in Quintana Roo. After swimming with whale sharks, we snorkeled in Cabo Catoche, where the Mexican Gulf meets the Caribbean sea. We ate ceviche and had beers on a stranded island.
You can Kayak, get caught in the cownose sting ray migration, bike or go to the Holbox Letters.

BIOLUMINESCENCE IN HOLBOX, MEXICO | PUNTA COCOS BEACH
On the western tip of Holbox Island, just a few hours from Cancun, is a beautiful beach called Punta Cocos. This beach is one of the most photographed around Cancun during sunset because it is facing west (rare for a beach in Riviera Maya), and also is home to the beach hammocks that make for great silhouette pictures.
Long after the sun sets, this beach still remains popular, not for parties, but for another attraction entirely; Bioluminescence. It becomes a glowing beach, and it's amazing to see.
Bioluminescent plankton are found here in one of the highest concentrations in Mexico. The water is very shallow, and even 20 meters or so away from shore, it's still below your knees. This allows these little glowing animals go accumulate in large numbers during the summer.
We visited in May, but were told the best season to see this phenomenon was in July or August after they have had a couple months of summer heat to reproduce. It is really incredible to see. These animals use light to scare away predators. In the ocean, there's usually always something bigger that can eat you, and by lighting up whoever is trying to eat them, they can attract an even larger fish to scare their attacker away.
There are lots of beautiful islands around the Yucatan peninsula, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, But Isla Holbox, is just beginning to get popular. Come visit now, or preferably in July or August, and see one of the best light shows in Mexico.
Many of the locations I feature on this channel are undiscovered. If you go, remember to take care of these places. Respect the animals and people who live there, don't throw your trash, and have a great time.

Tour of Isla Holbox Mexico with WifiTribe
Travelling with WifiTribe means weekend trips.
The 2018 Mexico chapter took us to Playa Del Carmen, and the second weekend we went to see Ilsa Holbox.
Holbox is an island on the north coast of the Quinta Roo province in Mexico. Flooded dirt roads offset by beautiful Caribbean beaches. Freshwater springs, flamingos and all kinds of other amazing wildlife can be found here. We took a boat tour to see just a few of the amazing things this place has to offer.

Exploring the BEAUTY of ISLA HOLBOX
It was such a windy day kayaking at Isla Holbox but we still had so much fun on the island. We loved exploring Holbox by bike and seeing all the great artwork in town. The beaches are AMAZING and you can walk out so far into the clear, blue ocean. Would definitely recommend exploring Isla Holbox in Mexico!
