Holtålen is a municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is part of the Gauldalen region. The administrative centre of the municipality is located in the Ålen area of the village of Renbygda. Other villages in the municipality include Hessdalen, Aunegrenda, and Haltdalen. The 1,210-square-kilometre municipality is the 82nd largest by area out of the 422 municipalities in Norway. Holtålen is the 326th most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 2,046. The municipality's population density is 1.7 inhabitants per square kilometre and its population has decreased by 1.4% over the last decade.
