The approximately 54.36-acre facility, near Downtown Huntsville, is operated by the Correctional Institutions Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, administered as within Region I. The facility, the oldest Texas state prison, opened in 1849.The unit houses the State of Texas execution chamber. It is the most active execution chamber in the United States, with 555 executions since 1982, when the death penalty was reinstated in Texas .

The North Alabama Railroad Museum, Inc. is a railroad museum in Chase, Alabama. The museum, incorporated in 1966, is an all volunteer organization. The museum has a collection of rolling stock, a small train station, and a small heritage railroad called the Mercury and Chase Railroad which operates between April and December. The mission of the NARM is to preserve railroad history in North Alabama and South Central Tennessee. It is run entirely by its 100-plus volunteers. The museum is open to the public daily, volunteers are usually available on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Admission to the museum is free, however there is a charge for riding the trains. A schedule of rides is available at the museum's website.

Sumter County Barbecue Traditions Continue | This is Alabama

In June of every year, Panola United Methodist Church in Sumter County, Alabama puts on a barbecue fundraising event featuring six whole hogs cooked over a pit for 24 hours. Sumter County is known for it's barbecue clubs, and while this event isn't technically a club, it's part of a long tradition of barbecue in the area.
