SIGHT AND SOUND OF EPE
Epe is a town and Local Government Area (LGA) in Lagos State, Nigeria located on the north side of the Lekki Lagoon. It lies on the north bank of the coastal Lagos Lagoon and has road connections to Ijebu-Ode and Ikorodu. A traditional settlement of the Ijebu people (a subgroup of the Yoruba), it was established by the mid-18th century as the chief port (slaves, cloth, agricultural produce) for Ijebu-Ode (17 mi [27 km] north-northwest), the capital of the Ijebu kingdom. It later served as the refuge for the forces of Kosoko, the Yoruba king ousted from Lagos (42 miles [68 km] west-southwest) by the British in 1851. In 1892 Epe was the embarkation point for the military expedition sent by Sir Gilbert Carter, the governor of Lagos, to defeat the awujale (the Ijebu political and spiritual ruler) at Ijebu-Ode.
Modern Epe is a collecting point for the export of fish, cassava (manioc), corn (maize), green vegetables, coconuts, cocoa, palm produce, rubber, and firewood to Lagos. Special leaves useful in preserving kola nuts are trucked to Ijebu-Ode, Shagamu, and the other main kola-shipping towns.
Epe is best known for its construction of the motorized, shallow-draft barges that navigate the coastal lagoons. Fishing is the major occupation. The town is served by secondary schools, several hospitals, and a health office. Pop. (2006) local government area, 181,409. At the 2006 Census the population of Epe was 181,409.
Epe is one of the oldest cities in the outskirts of Lagos. Due to the upcoming development in the Lekki Free Trade Zone (LFTZ) situated in Ibeju Lekki which is just 15 minutes from Epe, development has commenced at a fast rate in the area and its environs. Infrastructures to be built in the LFTZ include airport, seaport, hotels, golf courses, resorts and business areas for both Local and International brands.

Lekki Market -Lagos,Nigeria.
Among many other things, Lagos is a city of enterprise, and visitors who want to enjoy one of the most intoxicatingly intense experiences of this feature should find their way to the Lekki Market. Like Freedom Park, the market is a living testament to the past that reflects the character of Nigeria's exciting capital.

REMOVE THE GODESS DRESS AND DIE - FESTOUR
By May 1892 when the Imagbon War broke out between the British foreign invaders and Ijebu Kingdom, the Epe people of Lagos origin were suspected as 'internal enemies' who were capable of leaking security information to the colonial authorities in Lagos in exchange for some favours.
At this period, the Ijebu people had developed into an independent sovereign state, side by side with other pre-colonial Yoruba states. The defeat of sovereign Ijebu kingdom at Imagbon was the beginning of the decline of Ijebu people who became wholly and completely annexed with the Southern protectorate of Nigeria before the terminal amalgamation of 1914. Relatively proud, enlightened, smart, and confident of their ability and environment, the Ijebus had established themselves as mainly traders and middlemen between those who approached Lagos Island from the seas into the hinterland and those other African peoples and national societies that were land locked but wanted to reach the coastal area of Lagos.
The bold resistance of Ijebu warriors of the British colonial army, in their determined effort to enter and penetrate Ijebu kingdom in 1892, led to the decimation and excision of the kingdom, after the war, in order to conquer it permanently. Ikorodu town near Lagos, Ejinrin and Epe which were all parts of Ijebu kingdom were added to Lagos colony to constitute Lagos state.

Nigeria, Abuja - FIFA U-17 - EMS Preparations
FIFA chose eight venues out of nine possible locations.
On 21 May 2009, FIFA gave Nigeria a 'Yellow Card' as FIFA noted a significant delay in the preparations for the tournament. While Abuja and Lagos were ready, FIFA Vice-President Jack Warner gave four other venues (Enugu, Calabar, Ijebu-Ode and Kano) a month to get 100% ready or the tournament would be moved. One potential venue (Warri) was removed after recent violence flared up in the Niger Delta.
