The Fila Brasileiro also known as the Brazilian Mastiff is a large working breed of dog developed in Brazil. It is known for its superb tracking ability, aggressiveness and an unforgiving impetuous temperament. When a Brazilian Mastiff finds its quarry, it does not attack it, but rather holds it at bay until the hunter arrives. Owing to these qualities, the Brazilian Mastiff is used as a guard dog, as a shepherd dog for herding livestock and as a hunting dog for tracking and controlling large prey. When slavery was legal in Brazil, the Brazilian Mastiff was used to return fugitives unharmed to their slave masters. This breed has been banned in many countries because of its temperament and potential for aggression.

Fila Brasileiro Temperamento
Dotado de coragem, determinação e valentia notáveis. Não oculta sua ojeriza a estranhos, nem sua tradicional meiguice, obediência e fidelidade aos donos e seus familiares. Conseqüentemente é, nas cidades, inexcedível guarda de propriedades e, no campo, exímio boiadeiro e caçador de animais de grande porte.
Como resultado de seu temperamento, nas exposições não permite ser tocado pelo juiz (um estranho) e, se o atacar, não deve tal reação ser considerada falta, mas apenas confirmação de seu temperamento.
Nas provas de temperamento, obrigatórias nas exposições, após doze meses de idade, seu ataque deve ser em diagonal ascendente, à frente do apresentador, e sem deste revelar dependência.
Sistema Nervoso
Comportamento calmo, sereno, revelando segurança e confiança próprias, suportando perfeitamente ambientes e ruídos estranhos, como tiros de festim, teste obrigatório nas exposições, nunca disparado a menos de cinco metros e sempre após a idade de doze meses.

It is a courageous, determined and daring dog. It does not hide its aversion to strangers, or its traditional tenderness to its owners and family. Consequently, it is an unsurpassed watch dog in the cities, and an excellent herding dog and a hunter of big animals on farms.
As a result of its temperament, at dog shows it does not allow the judge(a stranger) to touch it. And if it attacks the judge, such a reaction must not be considered a fault, but only a confirmation of its temperament.
At temperament tests, obligatory for dogs over one year old at shows, the Fila attack must be in an ascending diagonal, in front of handler and without showing dependence from him.
Calm, serene and showing assurance, self confidence, even in strange environments, without being frightened by noises such as firing gun shots at shows. But the shot must not be discharged closer than five meters, and only to test dogs over one year old.
