Kyoto 京都 (The Old Capital)
About Kyoto:
Kyoto offers a unique opportunity for any visitor to Japan, being the home to many of UNESCO's world heritage sites, and having lent it's name to the Kyoto protocol it promises not to disappoint even the pickiest of tourist.
It is in many ways, the Japan I think most of us see in our dreams.
A wonderful mixture of ancient temples and shrines blended with modern architecture that doesn't seem to clash somehow. The kimono clad maiko, and unsui-monks in their robes promises an everlasting impression of a place steeped in tradition.
It is a place so easy to fall in love with, and I did, head over heels...
I went to Kyoto to celebrate my birthday and to get a break from media's pictures following the earthquake and tsunami. Pictures that seemed unreal but unfortunately, aren't. : (
The link at the top was an idea born after I tried to find a place to donate money to the victims up north but being unable to find a reliable place to do so.
A friend told me that that day, the Red Cross offered to match any donation made by one of their own... that's when it suddenly struck me how bad it really was and how easy it would be to help...
I'm sure you are well aware of what is going on. And Please Please don't feel forced to do anything you don't feel is right yourself, but I'd appreciate if you took a look at the link below or above.
Thanks.

Tsunami Days311:Kyoto Adventure: Lost日本旅行大阪は京都に
Kyoto city is famous for the Kinkaku-ji 金閣寺 Temple of the Golden Pavilion. A city rich with history and the ancient Japanese world of the samurai's. This is my Adventure lost in the world of tranquility of the gardens and my travels on the NOZOMI Shinkansen; a bullet train ride like no other. Public transport has never been so modern, efficient and comfortable. Using the latest and fastest ride taking me to the most ancient world this side of Japan.
note:
This was filmed in the Kansai region just hours after a Tsunami
hit North East Japan. Osaka is blessed the tsunami and earthquake did not affect the people of Osaka as much as their northern neighboring cities. The people here seemed content and unaffected by what has happened but of course you cannot judge people by the cover. Especially culturally the Japanese are very resiliant and stoic in expressing their feelings.
We were lucky enough to be 600km away from the epic centre of the disaster.
Our prayers and thoughts are with the people of Japan especially the city of Tokyo city and let its bright lights not be shimmered by such a disaster. We hope and pray for the best and let the situation get any worse in North eastern Japan.
