Throughout his career he has held a variety of academic and administrative appointments at universities in the US and has served as visiting professor of economics in France. He presently resides in Florida and in his free time spends time on the tennis court and at his country retreat watching cows graze and American bald eagles fly over the live oaks.

Attractive logis in mature gardens with independent annex and pool

House

Ground floor

The elegant entrance hall (14 sq m) is a fine setting to welcome your guests, with its marble flooring, solid stone staircase and mirror image double doors to the reception rooms both left and right.

To the right of the hallway is a double sitting room (56.5 sq m) of two adjoining 'rooms' with glazed double doors providing separation. Used as both an informal reading room/TV snug, and also as the sitting room, both halves benefit from wood panelling to the walls, stunning parquet flooring and garden views. Additionally the sitting room as a stone fireplace and glazed door to the terrace and garden, whilst the reading room has a door out to an attractive walled courtyard with decorative water feature.

To the left of the hallway; floor-to-ceiling double doors open into the second reception room, used as a dining room (30 sq m) which also boasts parquet flooring, a stone fireplace and garden views.

From here a door leads through to the bespoke modern kitchen (18 sq m), which is being sold fully equipped with quality appliances including oven, combination microwave-grill, hob, extractor, dishwasher and fridge. Next to the kitchen is a utility/laundry room (13.5 sq m) which also houses the central heating boiler. There are access doors from both the kitchen and the utility room direct to the garden.

To the rear of the entrance hall there is a ground floor cloak room with WC and wash hand basin.

First floor

The solid stone staircase rises to a landing area with a corridor running the full length of the house giving access to all five bedrooms.

The current owners have created a master suite comprising bedroom (26.5 sq m) dressing room (17 sq m) and bathroom (9 sq m) with bath, shower, wash basin and WC. These rooms all have inter-connecting doors so work extremely well as a suite, alternatively they also have doors to the landing corridor, so could be used as two independent bedrooms and a family bathroom.

Centrally located on the landing is an en-suite bedroom (20.5 sq m) with shower room and WC, and then two further bedrooms (14 and 13.5 sq m) one of which has a corner vanity unit with wash basin.

All five bedrooms are generously proportioned doubles and enjoy views across the mature gardens and beyond.

There is also access to a second floor attic space which could be converted to additional accommodation relatively simply.

Exterior

The house has a sunny South-East facing aspect with a paved terrace running along the front, ideal for dining, there is a retractable awning to provide shade when required.

The 11m x 6m heated (29°c), swimming pool is a luxury in its self, but is complemented by the addition of a jacuzzi-syle hot tub (35°c). Both pool and hot tub are surrounded by the prettily landscaped gardens - who could ask for more?

To one side of the house there is a shaded gravel courtyard with BBQ, which leads on to the barn with workshop (81 sq m) which in turn leads to the open sided barn offering shaded car parking.

The annex adjoins the open barn, and has a glazed wall creating a light and versatile space which could be utilised as a guest house or gîte, as there is already a bathroom with WC. It would be equally well suited to use as an artist studio, games room or just about anything you could think of.

To the right of the drive way (as you look away from the property) there is a well planned and very productive fruit and vegetable garden including a selection of fruit trees. to the opposite side of the garden there is an ornate and rarely seen stone plinth which now features an attractive water feature and was originally an orangerie.

The logis is located just a few minutes' drive from the heart of Jarnac, and has great access to both Cognac and Angouleme, there is even a bus stop at the end of the lane!

Ground floor

The front door opens into a corridor (with exposed stone wall) that runs the length of the house and that provides access to all of the ground floor living space. To the right a doorway opens to the kitchen (13 sq m) with tiled floor, part-tiled wall, exposed beam ceiling and windows overlooking the rear garden. Next to this a door from the hall opens to the living room (30 sq m) with tiled floor, exposed beam ceiling, exposed stone wall and stone fireplace. Further down the hall a door opens to a bedroom (15 sq m) with tiled floor, exposed beam ceiling and an exposed stone wall.

To the left of the entrance the corridor provides access to another bedroom (16 sq m) with exposed beam ceiling and an exposed stone wall. Further along the hall is a large room (20 sq m) with tiled floor and a range of kitchen units. This room is currently used as a dining room / kitchen for use by the B&B guests. Off this room a door opens to a room (13 sq m) with a door to the garden. This room is currently used as the main entrance / reception area for the B&B guests. Also off the corridor there is a ground floor shower room (shower, twin wash-basin and WC) with plumbing for a washing machine.

First floor

A flight of tiled stairs lead from the ground floor to the first floor landing (with exposed stone wall). Up here are three further bedrooms (25 sq m, 23 sq m and 20 sq m) - each with ensuite shower rooms.

Grounds

The house sites on a plot of 1929 m2. To the front is an attractive area of lawn. To the rear is another area of lawn and beyond this is an open hanger - a good distance from the house and ideal for storing cars/caravans out of sight. A part of the garden has been screened off to provide a more private garden area for guests.
