Five - Flower Lake (Wuhua Lake)
Five Flower Lake (also called the Wuhua Hai) is one of 118 lakes in Jiuzhaigou Valley Nature Reserve, located in the north of Sichuan, China, are 6th best in the world. It is the most beautiful lake in the valley and is regarded as one of the wonders of Jiuzhaigou. Five Flower Lake is considered as one of the most beautiful lakes in the world due to its breathtaking colors which are a result of its lake-bottom travertine and colorful algae. The pride of Jiuzhaigou Valley, Five-Flower Lake lies at the end of the upper reach of Peacock River, 2,472 meters (about 8,110 feet) above the sea level and five meters (about 16 feet) in depth. Most of the colorful leaves are gathered in the lakefront and interlaced as brocades. The water that contains calcium carbonate as well as hydrophytes with different colors presents a versicolor sight, azure blue, blackish green and light yellow, etc, so it is named Five-Flower Lake. The local people say that it is a holy lake, and where there is the water, there must be flourishing flowers and trees. When looking down from the mountain, you will find that the lake with hills on three sides is just like a huge upended cucurbit pouring colorful water to the lower place. The pristine water of Five Flower Lake is the pride of Jiuzhaigou. The lake lies at the end of the upper reach of Peacock River at an elevation of 2,472 meters (about 8,110 feet) above the sea level. The shallow lake of five meters (about 16 feet) in depth glistens different shades of turquoise and its floor is littered with fallen ancient tree trunks. The colors of the lake are formed by mineral deposits, aquatic plant life and unevenly distributed submerged plants. Five Flower Lake's autumn reflections are a spectacular display of nature.
Peculiarly, there is a pattern of a deer's leg in the abdomen of the cucurbit, 10 meters (about 33 feet) or so. The whole pattern is light green, while the middle part presents dark green due to the quincunx-shaped pits of the terrain of the lake bed. So the pattern is really like a spotted deer. The legend said that the deity of all mountains hurt the holy deer. that belonged to the King of Forest by mistake when he was seeking for water source in the mountain. The King of Forest was so furious that he chased the deity on the holy deer and wanted to kill him. Other deities cut off one leg of the deer in order to help the deity of all mountains. Then the holy deer fell down and became the colorful lake.

When you enter the Jiuzhai Valley scenic spot, the first lake you will meet is the Reed Lake also mirror lake, The height of Reed Lake is 2140 meters. Its whole length is 2.2 kilometers. It is a half-swamp Lake. Since the lake is full of reeds, it is the ideal place for water birds to live. In the middle of the lake, there is a water band which divided the Reed Lake into two parts. As the color of the water band likes Chinese beautiful jade, the water band is called as Jade River. It was said that the water band was the belt of the mountain goddess, Yaoluo Semo. In spring, the blooming reed flowers attract many wild ducks and egrets. So the whole Reed Sea is full of vitality in spring. In summer, reeds all turn green, and the color of the lake also is green. You could hardly distinguish them in a distance. In autumn, the reeds turn gold. With the green lake, the whole scenery looks like an emerald in a golden plate. The strong contrasting colors will make a deep impression on you.
