Amsterdam. Netherlands. History, Economy, Best Time To Travel
Amsterdam is the capital city and most populous municipality of the Netherlands. it is the country's largest city and its financial, cultural, and creative centre. The city is also well known for its nightlife and festival activity; several of its nightclubs are among the world's most famous. Amsterdam is known as Venice of the North because of its lovely canals that criss-cross the city.
LOCATION
The city is located in the province of North Holland in the west of the country. The Amsterdam metropolitan area comprises much of the northern part of the Randstad, one of the larger conurbations in Europe. The river Amstel ends in the city centre and connects to a large number of canals. Amsterdam is connected to the North Sea through the long North Sea Canal. Amsterdam has more than 100 kilometres (60 miles) of canals, most of which are navigable by boat.
HISTORY
Amsterdam was granted city rights in either 1300 or 1306. From the 14th century on, Amsterdam flourished, largely from trade. Amsterdam became one of the most important ports in the world during the Dutch Golden Age (17th century), as a result of its innovative developments in trade. The 17th-century canals of Amsterdam and the 19–20th century Defence Line of Amsterdam are on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
POPULATION
BEST TIME
Amsterdam is a large city and a major tourist destination, so you can visit it all year round. Dutch capital is great all year round, but consider coming between in April, May, early June, or mid-September and mid-October, when crowds are smaller and you’ll have a better chance for sunny skies. The worst time for sightseeing is during the summer when lines for the most popular attractions can mean a very long. In winter the days are short (8 hours daylight).
CLIMATE
Amsterdam has an oceanic climate strongly influenced by its proximity to the North Sea to the west. Both winters and summers are considered mild. January and February are the coldest months, with lows around -1°C and highs around 5°C. July and August are the warmest months, with an average temperature of 22°C (72°F).
COMMUNICATION
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is 15km southwest of the city. It ranks in the top 15 airports worldwide for passenger traffic, serving more than 60 million passengers per year. NS Dutch Railways operates trains to-from the lower level of the airport. Trains run approximately every 10 minutes. A pleasant way to cover a lot of ground is to rent a bicycle. There is at least one bike for every people living in Amsterdam. The city is very bike-friendly, and there are separate bike lanes on most major streets.
ECONOMY
Amsterdam is the financial and business capital of the Netherlands. The Amsterdam Stock Exchange is the oldest stock exchange in the world. The Port of Amsterdam is the fourth largest port in Europe, the second largest port in the Netherlands. Amsterdam has the biggest cruise port in the Netherlands with more than 150 cruise ships every year. Amsterdam is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe.

BEST street food in New York - NYC street food
Consider this your essential NYC food guide. What is your favourite street food? New York Street food is great and New York food carts are world famous. There are lots of food trucks, New York street food carts and New York food markets. The variety and selection of street food in New York is amazing. One of the best ways to experience New York is through the food carts and street food. In this video we will take you on a tour of the best street food options in New York.
You can find information about all New York Food Truck Events on the following website: We were fortunate enough to catch one of the food truck festivals. These were some of the street foods that we tried at the New York Food truck festival.
-The Mac Truck makes a variety of mac and cheese. Mac and cheese has gained in popularity in recent years. The Mac Truck make a great variety of flavours.
-New York pizza is an essential food to try. Where can you get the best Pizza in New York. Not sure, but the Neapolitan Express food truck located on 232 East 111th Street, New York. There are many other locations in New York. Check out the website for more.
-Lobster is not exactly a typical street food, but we were happy to encounter Cousins Maine Lobster.
The typical New York food cart sells hot dogs, burgers and pretzels. We tried an expensive and very average $4 pretzel. I’d suggest to skip it and save your calories for something more delicious.
The Biryani House Cart in the New York Financial District is a highly acclaimed food cart. I love Indian food and this New York food cart is what makes New York Street food so exciting. The variety and authenticity.
The Chelsea Market is an amazing food market in a repurposed biscuit factory in the Chelsea and Meatpacking district in New York. This is one of the best food markets / best food hall that I have ever visited, with a huge variety of street food and locally produced food.
If you love thick milkshakes and delicious hot dogs, then the Shake Shack is the place for you. We visited the original Shake Shack in Madison Square Park. This is where you will find one of the best hot dogs in New York and one of the best milkshakes in New York

HIKING BREAKNECK RIDGE // New York
Last week my friend Rebekah and I drove an hour and a half outside of New York City to Cold Spring, where we scrambled up Breakneck Ridge. We ended the day with delicious Vietnamese food in Ridgewood. I'd say it was a pretty good Sunday.

Driving Downtown - Bronx 4K - New York City USA
Driving Downtown - Bronx New York City New York USA - Episode 40.
Starting Point: .
The Bronx is the northernmost of the five boroughs of New York City, within the U.S. state of New York.
The Bronx contains one of the five poorest Congressional Districts in the United States, the 15th, but its wide diversity also includes affluent, upper-income and middle-income neighborhoods such as Riverdale, Fieldston, Spuyten Duyvil, Schuylerville, Pelham Bay, Pelham Gardens, Morris Park and Country Club.[10][11] The Bronx, particularly the South Bronx, saw a sharp decline in population, livable housing, and the quality of life in the late 1960s and the 1970s, culminating in a wave of arson. Since then the communities have shown significant redevelopment starting in the late 1980s before picking up pace from the 1990s until today.
About a quarter of the Bronx's area is open space,[5] including Woodlawn Cemetery, Van Cortlandt Park, Pelham Bay Park, the New York Botanical Garden and the Bronx Zoo in the borough's north and center. These open spaces are situated primarily on land deliberately reserved in the late 19th century as urban development progressed north and east from Manhattan.
The name Bronx originated with Jonas Bronck, who established the first settlement in the area as part of the New Netherland colony in 1639.[6][7][8] The native Lenape were displaced after 1643 by settlers. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the Bronx received many immigrant groups as it was transformed into an urban community, first from various European countries (particularly Ireland, Germany and Italy) and later from the Caribbean region (particularly Puerto Rico, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic), as well as African American migrants from the southern United States.[9] This cultural mix has made the Bronx a wellspring of both Latin music and hip hop.
Revitalization
In 1997, the Bronx was designated an All America City by the National Civic League, acknowledging its comeback from the decline of the mid-century.[65] In 2006, The New York Times reported that construction cranes have become the borough's new visual metaphor, replacing the window decals of the 1980s in which pictures of potted plants and drawn curtains were placed in the windows of abandoned buildings.[66] The borough has experienced substantial new building construction since 2002. Between 2002 and June 2007, 33,687 new units of housing were built or were under way and $4.8 billion has been invested in new housing. In the first six months of 2007 alone total investment in new residential development was $965 million and 5,187 residential units were scheduled to be completed. Much of the new development is springing up in formerly vacant lots across the South Bronx.[67]
Sports
The Bronx is the home of the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball.
New York’s East Village, Lower East Side and NoHo
Take a walk through New York's Lower East side and the East Village, including a major dog park.

It's a part of the city that most visitors don't get to, and yet you'll find it's one of the most interesting places in New York.
But first a look at this kind of industrial semi-downbeat neighborhood called NoHo, that's north of Houston. It's an in-between place that doesn't get a lot of attention, but that makes it fascinating to explore a little bit.
So much of lower Manhattan has been gentrified with new buildings going in and old buildings demolished. It's really quite delightful to see this more authentic presence in the city.
This sharp angle at Bleecker, Mulberry, and Lafayette brings us to Houston Street, and the flagship store in New York of REI, a great sporting goods shop.
Two levels and a large floor area have all sorts of clothing and shoes, hiking gear, hardware and tents - everything you could need for the outdoor life.
Continuing south of Houston on Lafayette Street, we are heading for Little Italy and then on into the lower East side.
Continuing now along Hester, passing a park and busy street, walking along Ludlow, Orchard, and Stanton and Rivington deeper into the Lower East Side.
These blocks around the north end of Orchard Street have an authentic urban charm with a lot of character. You don't see many chain stores here, they're individual, idiosyncratic, they've got grocery delivery on electric mopeds, for example. There's a real feeling of neighborhood here.
We've traveled north of Houston Street, which means we have arrived in the East Village, walking north a few blocks along First Avenue and then meandering down 7th Street and St. Mark's Place, ending up at Tompkins Square Park. It features the usual park attractions and something very special.
This place has gone to the dogs. Yes, it features the largest and oldest dog run park in the city, opened in 1990, and recently renovated and expanded. You can see this is an extremely popular spot. The dog run is managed and funded by the community. They set up a foundation called Friends of First Run, and they secured funding for renovations and ongoing maintenance.
While it's primarily a place for the dogs to run around and have some fun and get some exercise, you can see that the people are benefiting just as much, if not more, than the dogs. It really brings the community together – a place to make new friendships and renew old acquaintances, catch up on the neighborhood news.
