Juuka is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the province of Eastern Finland and is part of the North Karelia region. The municipality has a population of 4,723 and covers an area of 1,846.58 square kilometres of which 344.78 km2 is water. The population density is 3.14 inhabitants per square kilometre . Neighbouring municipalities are Kuopio, Kaavi, Kontiolahti, Lieksa, Nurmes, Polvijärvi and Rautavaara. The municipality is unilingually Finnish.

The monastery was then originally established on Valaam which is an archipelago in the northern portion of Lake Ladoga, lying within the Republic of Karelia in the Russian Federation. Sámi person Niiles-Jouni Aikio singing traditional Joiku song in Levi, Lapland, Finland.

Many people wonder, if it is possible to meet Sámi people on their journey to Lapland. This is not an easy task, as Sámi people live a common life now, just as everybody else. They aren't too many of them either, just a few thousands in Finnish Lapland. Sámi people also aren't an attraction, and they guard their privacy, just as anybody :) Sámi person Niiles-Jouni Aikio, depicted in this video, currently lives in Levi, Lapland. He is a skillful singer, actor, a reindeer herder, and he is also an excellent cook. And, you can be his guest at his restaurant Saamen Kammi in Levi Lapland. There, you will sample 5 different dishes that he makes out of reindeer, and super-tasty glow-fried salmon. He also sings some traditional Joiku songs to you in his native Sámi language. And he is just an amazing human being!

Kierrätyspäivä Juuassa

Juuan liikunta-kulttuuritalolla järjestettiin kierrätykseen liittyvä teemapäivä 29.5.2012. Päivän aikana alakoulussa ja eskarissa opiskelevat lapset ja nuoret pääsivät tutustumaan kierrätysaiheeseen useasta eri näkökulmasta. Tapahtuma oli osa Vaara-Karjalan Leader ry:n rahoittaamaa Together for the future --hanketta. Hanke on kansainvälinen nuorisovaihtohanke, jonka yhtenä teemana on nuorten kouluttaminen ympäristöasioissa.
