Maldives of Greece or maybe Seychelles of Greece? Whatever you call it, you guys will be amazed by the beauty of the exotic complex of 7 islets we visited this time, officially called “Lichadonisia” (Λιχαδονήσια). Turquoise waters, white sandy lagoons and a cargo ship wreck since 1943. We were so lucky to watch and swim with a family of Mediterranean monk seals (Monachus monachus) playing just next to our boat. Lichadonisia were formed after volcanic activity while a large part of the islands sank from an earthquake in 426 B.C. Their name came from Lichas, the servant of Hercules, who handed him the tunic of Deianeira, according to mythology and because when Hercules held him responsible for the tunic, hurled him to the sea. From the pieces and his blood were formed the Lichades islands! The islands are located opposite to Lichada cape in the north-western extreme of Evia. We left early morning from Athens and we headed to Kamena Vourla, a beautiful seaside town where we rented our own boat to the islets.

Chalkida (or Chalcis) is the chief town of the island of Euboea in Greece. The town is connected to the mainland Greece by two bridges, the Sliding Bridge in the west at the narrowest point of the Euripus Strait and a suspension bridge.

Άμφισσα / Amfissa, Greece
Η ιστορία της Άμφισσας ξεκινάει από την αρχαιότητα, αφού κατοικείτο από τους πανάρχαιους χρόνους όπως μαρτυρούν τα Κυκλώπεια Τείχη της Ακρόπολής της αλλά και η αναφορά του Παυσανία σε δύο αξιομνημόνευτους τάφους που υπήρχαν στην πόλη, της Άμφισσας και του Ανδραίμονος, που ήταν πατέρας του βασιλέα των Αιτωλών και ήρωα του Τρωικού πολέμου, Θόαντος. Η Άμφισσα αποτελούσε μεγάλη πόλη-κράτος και πρωτεύουσα των Εσπερίων ή Οζολών Λοκρών. Ο Ηρόδοτος την αναφέρει ως ύπερθεν του Κρισαίου πεδίου.
Από τον 8ο αιώνα π.Χ., διατηρούσε εμπορικές σχέσεις με την Κόρινθο και με πόλεις της βορειοδυτικής Πελοποννήσου. Τον 7ο αιώνα π.Χ. η Άμφισσα οργανώθηκε ως πόλη-κράτος με τις τέχνες και το εμπόριο να γνωρίζουν άνθηση που διήρκεσε για τρεις αιώνες. Το 653 π.Χ. κάτοικοι της πόλης και της ευρύτερης περιοχής μετανάστευσαν στην Κάτω Ιταλία όπου ίδρυσαν την αποικία των Επιζεφύριων Λοκρών, μια πόλη που υπάρχει μέχρι σήμερα με το όνομα Locri. Στον Πελοποννησιακό Πόλεμο (431 π.Χ. - 404 π.Χ.), οι Αμφισσείς τάχθηκαν με το μέρος των Σπαρτιατών εναντίον των Αθηναίων. Το 338 π.Χ. η Άμφισσα καταστράφηκε από τον Φίλιππο Β' της Μακεδονίας, ο οποίος έχοντας κληθεί από τους Αμφικτύονες και ως προϊστάμενος του Αμφικτυονικού Συνεδρίου των Δελφών, κατά τον Δ΄ Ιερό Πόλεμο την κατέσκαψε εκ θεμελίων και γκρέμισε την ακρόπολή της, ως τιμωρία επειδή οι Αμφισσείς είχαν καταδικαστεί για ασέβεια και αρνούνταν να πληρώσουν πρόστιμο, εξαιτίας του ότι είχαν καλλιεργήσει παράνομα κτήματα του Κρισαίου Πεδίου που ανήκαν στους Δελφούς.
Η πόλη ανοικοδομήθηκε και αποτέλεσε μέρος της πανίσχυρης Αιτωλικής Συμπολιτείας, από τον 3ο αιώνα π.Χ., και μια από τις σπουδαιότερες πόλεις της, με την οποία πήρε μέρος, το 278 π.Χ., στη νικηφόρα μάχη κατά των Γαλατών, που εδραίωσε την κυριαρχία της Συμπολιτείας στον Ελληνικό χώρο. Κατά το 2ο αιώνα π.Χ. η Άμφισσα γνώρισε την μεγαλύτερη ακμή της, κόβοντας δικά της νομίσματα, ενώ διέθετε Βουλή και Εκκλησία του Δήμου, όταν, σύμφωνα με το δόγμα της Ρωμαϊκής Συγκλήτου που κήρυξε στη Κόρινθο, κατά τη διάρκεια των Ισθμίων, ο Ρωμαίος ύπατος Τίτος Κόιντος Φλαμινίνος, αποτέλεσε ανεξάρτητη πόλη και πρωτεύουσα της Οζολίας Λοκρίδας. Το 190 π.Χ. ο Ρωμαίος ύπατος Μάνιος Ακίλιος Γλαβρίωνας απέτυχε να εκπορθήσει την πόλη, ενώ αργότερα, η πόλη θα συνάψει ειρήνη με τη Ρώμη και θα παραμείνει ως ανεξάρτητη πολιτείd χωρίς να πληρώνει φόρους στη Ρώμη. Την περίοδο 174 π.Χ. - 160 π.Χ. γνώρισε μεγάλες καταστροφές από τον πόλεμο μεταξύ των φιλορωμαίων Αιτωλών και των αυτονομιστών, και πολλά κτήριά της πυρπολήθηκαν. Το 27 π.Χ. ο Οκταβιανός Αύγουστος, σε ανάμνηση της νίκης του στο Άκτιο, ίδρυσε τη Νικόπολη, αλλά πολλοί Αιτωλοί δεν υπάκουσαν στη διαταγή του να εποικίσουν τη νέα πόλη και προτίμησαν να μετοικήσουν στην Άμφισσα, όπως τους υπαγόρευαν αρχαιότατοι συγγενικοί δεσμοί. Τότε η Άμφισσα απέκτησε τεράστιο πληθυσμό και έγινε μία από τις πλέον ακμάζουσες πόλεις της Ελλάδας των αυτοκρατορικών ρωμαϊκών χρόνων, ακμή που κράτησε για τουλάχιστον δύο αιώνες.
