Malaysia: Tanah Merah Rubber plantation 1952
Heavily guarded British rubber plantation which I thought to be in Kelantan, but one of my viewers remarked that it was near Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan, not kelantan... Viewer Faiz Sathi Abdullah wrote: Yes, the estate is now owned by Sime Darby... but I know it very well because I was born there in 1952 when it was Tanah Merah Estate (so known until the late 70s I think). There were several divisions of the Guthrie-owned estate then, the bigger ones being B1 close to the town of Sepang (later Mann Estate, where I was born), A1 (or Tanah Merah 10) and A9 (Tanah Merah 9). The largest containing the main Guthrie administrative offices was A9, and the video clips shown here were probably taken here... Indeed, even today when the highway from KL to Seremban/Port Dickson is jammed with traffic,

giant freshwater prawn
Macrobrachium rosenbergii, also known as the giant river prawn or giant freshwater prawn, is a commercially important species of palaemonid freshwater prawn. It is found throughout the tropical and subtropical areas of the Indo-Pacific region, from India to Southeast Asia and Northern Australia.[2] The giant river prawn has also been introduced to parts of Africa, Thailand, China, Japan, New Zealand, the Americas and the Caribbean.[3] It is one of the biggest freshwater prawns in the world and is widely cultivated in several countries for food.[2] While M. rosenbergii is considered a freshwater species, the larval stage of the animal depends on brackish water.[4] Once the individual shrimp has grown beyond the planktonic stage and becomes a juvenile, it will live entirely in freshwater.[4]

Muzium Darul Ridzuan is a historical museum of Perak, in a pretty former tin-mining tycoon's mansion on Jalan Kuala Kangsar.
Concubine Lane or better known locally as Yi Lai Hong in Cantonese is a narrow and small lane located off Jalan Bandar Timah (Leech Street) in Old Town, Ipoh. It now has different restaurants, souvenir and gift shops and an entirely respectable hotel. To some locals, Concubine Lane is already becoming too busy.

Cendol
Cendol /ˈtʃɛndɒl/ is a traditional dessert popular in Southeast Asia such as : Indonesia, Malaysia,[1] Singapore, Brunei, Cambodia, East Timor, Vietnam, Thailand and Burma.
Ingredients[edit]
Cendol with durian in Indonesia
The dessert's basic ingredients are coconut milk, jelly noodles made from rice flour with green food coloring (usually derived from the pandan leaf), shaved ice and palm sugar. Other ingredients such as red beans, glutinous rice, grass jelly, creamed corn, might also be included.[6]
In Sunda, Indonesia, cendol is a dark-green pulpy dish of rice (or sago) flour worms with coconut milk and syrup of areca sugar. It used to be served without ice. In Javanese, cendol refers to the green jelly-like part of the beverage, while the combination of cendol, palm sugar and coconut milk is called dawet. The most famous variant of Javanese es dawet is from Banjarnegara, Central Java. Today, iced cendol might be served with additional toppings; such as diced jackfruit, durian flesh, and chocolate condensed milk are popular in Indonesia.[7]
The influence of Singapore and the West has given rise to different variations of cendol, such as cendol with vanilla ice-cream or topped with durian.

Sugarcane, or sugar cane, are several species of tall perennial true grasses of the genus Saccharum, tribe Andropogoneae, native to the warm temperate to tropical regions of South Asia and Melanesia, and used for sugar production. It has stout, jointed, fibrous stalks that are rich in the sugar sucrose, which accumulates in the stalk internodes. The plant is two to six meters (six to twenty feet) tall. All sugar cane species interbreed and the major commercial cultivars are complex hybrids. Sugarcane belongs to the grass family Poaceae, an economically important seed plant family that includes maize, wheat, rice, and sorghum, and many forage crops.
Sucrose, extracted and purified in specialized mill factories, is used as raw material in the food industry or is fermented to produce ethanol. Ethanol is produced on a large scale by the Brazilian sugarcane industry. Sugarcane is the world's largest crop by production quantity.[1] In 2012, The Food and Agriculture Organization estimates it was cultivated on about 26×106 hectares (6.4×107 acres), in more than 90 countries, with a worldwide harvest of 1.83×109 tonnes (1.80×109 long tons; 2.02×109 short tons). Brazil was the largest producer of sugar cane in the world. The next five major producers, in decreasing amounts of production, were India, China, Thailand, Pakistan, and Mexico.

Asam laksa[edit]
A bowl of Penang laksa, a variant of Asam laksa.
Asam laksa is a sour, fish and tamarind-based soup. Penang Asam Laksa listed at number 26th on World's 50 most delicious foods compiled by CNN Go in 2011.[13] Asam is the Malay word for any ingredients that makes a dish tastes sour (e.g. tamarind, gelugur or kokum). Laksa typically uses asam keping, known as kokum in the English speaking world, which is a type of dried slices of sour mangosteens. The modern Malay spelling is asam, though the spelling assam is still frequently used.
The main ingredients for asam laksa include shredded fish, normally kembung (small mackerel of the Rastrelliger genus), and finely sliced vegetables including cucumber, onions, red chillies, pineapple, lettuce, common mint, daun kesum (Vietnamese mint or laksa mint) and pink bunga kantan (torch ginger). Asam laksa is normally served with either thick rice noodles or thin rice noodles (vermicelli). And topped off with petis udang or hae ko (蝦膏), a thick sweet prawn/shrimp paste.[1]
Variants of asam laksa include:
Penang laksa (Malay: Laksa Pulau Pinang), also known as asam laksa from the Malay for tamarind, comes from the Malaysian island of Penang. It is made with mackerel (ikan kembung) soup and its main distinguishing feature is the asam or tamarind which gives the soup a sour taste. The fish is poached and then flaked. Other ingredients that give Penang laksa its distinctive flavour include lemongrass, galangal (lengkuas) and chilli.

Mee Jawa (sometimes called Jawa Noodles or Mi Jawa) is a traditional Malaysian dish made up of yellow egg noodle drenched in blended sweet potato base with tomato sauce and prawn stock. It is a famous dish among Malaysians, Indonesians and Singaporeans. The famous stalls are located within the states of Malaysia called Penang and Sarawak.[1]
Origin[edit]
The origin of Mee Jawa is not definite. The belief thus far states that it was created by the Javanese community during the early 19th century in Malaysia.[2][3] Mee Jawa was such an incredible dish that mobile hawkers sold it by carrying two baskets with long wooden sticks on their shoulder and cycling by bicycle from one place to another. Not to mention Malaysia has tropical weather which sometimes has drastic heatwaves from time to time. Despite that , this dish was still sold anyhow.[4]
