Elephant orphanage in Sri Lanka
Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage is an orphanage and breeding ground for wild elephants which is situated northwest of the town of Kegalle, Sri Lanka. It was established in 1975 by the Department of Wildlife Conservation on a 25-acre (10 ha) coconut plantation on the Maha Oya river. The orphanage was originally founded in order to afford care and protection to the many orphaned elephants found in the jungle.
The aim of the orphanage is to simulate the natural world. However, there are some exceptions: the elephants are taken to the river twice daily for a bath, and all the babies under three years of age are still bottle fed by the mahouts and volunteers. Each animal is also given around 76 kilograms (170 lb) of green manure a day and around 2 kg (4.4 lb) from a food bag containing rice bran and maize. They get access to water twice a day, from the river.
This elephant orphanage is also a breeding place for elephants. More than twenty-three elephants have been born since 1984, and the orphanage has the largest herd of captive elephants in the world. While most of the elephants are healthy, one is blind, and one, named Sama, has lost her front right leg to a land mine.
The orphanage is very popular among local and foreign tourists. The main attraction is the opportunity to observe the bathing elephants from the broad river bank as the herd interacts socially, bathing and playing.
The orphanage is open to the public daily, and all admission fees are used to look after the elephants. Visitors to the park can view many different aspects of the care and daily routine of the elephants, such as bottle feeding of elephant calves, feeding of all other elephants, and bathing. Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage is also the subject of a report by the Born Free Foundation which calls into question the animal welfare at the orphanage.

Dambora Ella | Colombo waterfalls-1 VLOG#13
Location :
Like us on FB :
Dambora Ella Fall (10m in height) is created by a waterway of the Wakoya River and was formerly known as Demala Falls as the Tamil (Dravidian/Demala) labourers used to wash here. Dambora Falls is located near Labugama Reservoir in the village of Dambora (Hanwella Divisional Secretariat), Colombo District (Avissawela Electorate)
Take the road from Hanwella to Labugama, past the old bridge at Thunmodara. After a further 1km, turn right in the direction of Dambora village and continue for 3km (1/2 km?) to the fall. (These directions were supplied by veteran journalist Piyasiri Matarage in a letter to the Sri Lanka Waterfalls Council.)
Although the published height of the waterfall is 10 meters, it is said that waterfall is 15-20 meters. There is no proper access to the waterfall and its a difficult climb to reach the fall.

Kallebokka - Biso Ella - Hulangala
Kallebokka is a estate in Panwila - kabaragala road next to Madulkele, Central Province, Sri Lanka. It is located at an elevation of 1175 meters above sea level. The 360 View point located at the highest peak in the division/estate is the attractive place where most of the locals visit to view the surranding beauties. We can see knuckles range with it's highest peaks and Sembuwatte Lake also can be seen.
Biso Ella waterfall is situated in Selagama tea estate. Take your return journey from Maningamuwa junction through Salagama towards Yatawaththa. Take right hand turn from Selagama line house junction and drive up to the Kovil. Then you have to go along the Marshy land in front of the Kovil to reach the waterfall. Biso falls has low water level and this reminded me Sera Ella because of the cave behind the waterfall. A story about seven princes is related to this waterfall, they committed suicide by jumping from the fall. The word 'Biso' meaning 'Princes' in Sinhala
Hulangala mini world’s end is situated at Selagama tea estate. Distance is 2km from Selagama Kovil to reach this Mini world’s end. Bikes, three Wheeler can easily reach this place.
