Kent County is a county in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2010 census, the county had a population of 602,622. Its county seat is Grand Rapids. The county was set off in 1831, and organized in 1836. It is named for New York jurist and legal scholar James Kent, who represented the Michigan Territory in its dispute with Ohio over the Toledo Strip. Kent County is part of the Grand Rapids–Wyoming, MI Metropolitan Statistical Area. Kent County is West Michigan's economic and manufacturing center, with the Steelcase corporation based in the county.     Fulton Street Farmers Market is the longest-running farmers market in the Grand Rapids area. First opened in 1922, it is a popular destination for the city and its metropolitan area's residents. The market has 118 outdoor booths under a roof, and room for a small number of vendors in an indoor shopping hall, which also houses the information desk. The market opens four days a week from May to Christmas, and just Saturdays from January to April. The focus is on farm produce, with vendors providing locally grown produce getting first priority. Mobile food vendors such as food trucks and food carts also serve customers on its busier days.
