A month ago I returned from a short vacation, which I spent in Crimea. I went there despite the Canadian Government travel advisory, which does not recommend to go there. Despite the fact that it happened one and a half year ago, for the umpteenth time, they tell about armed groups supported by Russian military forces who took control of government buildings, airports and other locations in the Crimean peninsula and about its occupation and annexation.
This video is my thoughts dictated to my cell phone during ten-hour flight from Moscow to Toronto. They are my observations about different cultures. When moving from one culture to another, many things become clear.
For many Canadians and Westerners in general it is an occupied and annexed territory. For some, who are less affected by the local propaganda it is the opposite — a territory freed from the occupation. Why? Watch the video to find an answer.

Крым нас восхитил и покорил!
Это была наша первая поездка в Крым. Мы поехали на Шевроле Нива на 7 дней и хотели по максимуму все посмотреть, но после поездки поняли, что за неделю Крым можно увидеть очень поверхностно и я даже не знаю сколько надо времени, что бы в полной мере насладиться красотой природы, морем, огромным количеством достопримечательностей, богатейшей историей этого замечательного полуострова!
1 день. Наш маршрут как и у всех автопутешественников начался с парома, определенные неудобства и финансовые затраты это приносит. За автомобиль и 3 человек отдали 2500 руб. и от первой площадки и до момента отправки парома ушло 1,5 часа, 40 минут по морю и мы в Керчи. Встряли на ж/д переезде, немного постояли и решили его попробовать объехать вдоль моря. Море нас встретило дельфинами, что привело в восторг мою вторую половину и она в платье и на платформе в 15 см весело бежала к морю посмотреть на них, я все таки не понимаю как девушки ходят в таких босоножках, ну а как можно на них бежать в при прыжку по пересеченной местности это вообще загадка... Ну ладно, речь не об этом...
К вечеру мы прибыли в Коктебель, думали ночевать в палатке, но были приятно удивлены ценами на жилье и тем что снять номер на 1 ночь не проблема (на наших курортах Краснодарского края снять на ночь, даже за не гуманные деньги это проблема) и решили что проживание в палатке оставим на потом. Стоимость номера 300 руб. с человека, горячая вода, душ, туалет, стиралка, утюг, в общем все для комфортного проживания и до моря 100 м до центрального пляжа. Вечером прогулялись, зашли в кафе у моря, опять были удивлены ценами, лагман 150 руб, барабулька 100 руб за 100 гр и тп. Атмосфера Коктебеля очень понравилась, много необычных, но приветливых людей, уютная спокойная, но не скучная атмосфера, единственное море было грязное после шторма, что немного испортило общее впечатление.
2 день. Утром второго дня мы отправились в Судак, посмотреть крепость, поехали не по основной трассе, а по дороге вдоль побережья. По пути восхитились лесополосами вдоль дороги, вместо наших привычных тополей у них растет миндаль! В Судаке полазили по крепости, залезли на самый верх на скалу с потрясающими видами на море и на город, прокатились на машине вдоль стены и поехали дальше в Новый свет. На Пляж нового света посмотрели сверху, увидели нереально большое количество людей, что резко отбило желание туда спускаться, тропу Галицина решили оставить на следующий раз. Дальше хотели найти бухту любви, но так и не поняли как к ней спуститься и так как темнело, решили искать гостиницу. Заночевали в п. Рыбачьем, 500 руб с человека со всеми удобствами в номере. Очень понравилось море, мелкая галька, хоть и были волны, но море очень чистое!
3 день. Третий день начался с Долины приведений. Хоть местные УАЗоводы нам доказывали что мы на верх не заедем, конечно же мы поехали. Подъем для груженного Шевика был реально сложный, крутые подъемы, ступеньки, скальник, в некоторых местах было страшновато, когда машина на подъеме отказывалась ехать и стояла, буксовала на очередной ступеньке, но мы все таки добрались куда хотели и перед нами открылся шикарный вид на Алушту, море, горы!!! Тут после уже надоевшего асфальта мы долго кайфовали, дышали горным воздухом, любовались видами! Оно того стоит, даже если Ваш авто не позволяет туда заехать, рекомендую нанять УАЗа и все таки посетить все смотровые площадки! Дальше нас ждал не менее интересный спуск и мы продолжили путь в Гурзуф. Этот городок нас просто восхитил и вдохновил, усталость куда то делась, прогулялись по узким улочка, где нет автомобилей и местные передвигаются на мопедах, над нами висят балконы, жители пьют чай свисая с них, почему то сравнение в голову пришло с Прагой. Очень спокойный уютный городок, со своей завораживающей атмосферой в который хочется вернуться. Первым делом пошли в бухту Чехова, вход 150 руб. в стоимость входит экскурсия по дому и лекция. Место красивое, я сразу понял, почему Чехов отдал за этот невзрачный домик огромные по тем временам деньги 3000 руб., ведь он купил дом вместе с куском моря и полностью изолированной живописной бухтой. Тут я поплавал с маской и трубкой, очень много крабов, рыбы, в общем есть чем полюбоваться и на берегу и на воде и под водой!

Thank God for Russia rescuing Crimea from Ukraine.
There are no signs AT ALL of hardship or misery in the parts of Crimea that we visited. There are certainly not 100,000 people trying to leave under Russian oppression as reported in the Telegraph on June 11. No war, no danger above the usual travel risks that you would find in Spain or Italy.
We did have to deal with no access to Credit/Debit cards, our UK mobile phones did not work (O2 and Vodafone), because of the western sanctions and no hire car delivery at the airport, but this was part of the adventure and we thoroughly enjoyed this 10-day trip and would do it again. Once we had switched our phones for Russian SIM's we started on our adventure!
All the people that we spoke to told us that the referendum on re-joining Russia was unanimous - well 96.4% actually.
The people certainly looked happy enough, which I'll think you'll agree from this video.

From a political point of view all that I would say is don't watch or listen to Main Stream Media - Almost everything is a lie! Sanctions are only hurting the UK and the EU - Russia is almost completely unaffected!

Russia did not annex anything. Whatever happened with Crimea is the result of unlawful actions of certain political forces in Ukraine who had brought the situation to a state coup.
These actions are fully compliant with the international law and the United Nations Charter and relevant decisions of the United Nations courts on similar issues, which the United Nations used to have in its international practice.
Some western people/governments call it annexation. This would imply President Putin sending an invasion force to Crimea, like the US did to Hawaii and just about everywhere else in the world. However, this is not true. Crimea held a referendum under international law where westerner observers monitored the proceedings. We spoke to local people and this is true although western main stream media would argue until they're blue in the face that it is not.
The majority of Crimean people voted (96.4%) to be reunited with Russia and the Crimean government lodged a request for such action. The International Monitors stated the process was legal, there was no forcing of people to vote in favour of rejoining Russia.
The Russian State Duma agreed with the Crimean Governments request and at that point helicopters with troops were sent in to secure the region against the same sort of attacks that Donbass is currently experiencing in eastern Ukraine.
I stand with Crimea's democratic decision to stand with Russia. All I want to do is expose the truth.
