King George County is a county located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 23,584. Its county seat is King George.The county's largest employer is the U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division. It is adjacent to the two-lane, 2-mile long Harry W. Nice Memorial Bridge carrying U.S. Highway 301 over the Potomac River. It contains the ZIP codes 22448 and 22485 . It is within the area code 540 and contains the exchanges: 775, 644, 663, and 653.

The present plantation house was built in 1790.James Madison, the fourth President of the United States, was born on March 16, 1751, on Belle Grove plantation, in an earlier house which no longer stands. Belle Grove plantation was the childhood home of his mother, Eleanor Rose Nellie Conway. Her father Francis Conway was the namesake for Port Conway. On April 11, 1973, Belle Grove was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Hiking Featherfin Wildlife Management Area in Buckingham and Prince Edward Counties,Virginia

I am exploring the interior of the Featherfin Wildlife Management Area located in central Virginia west of the town of Farmville.

Illinois State Capitol Tour in Springfield (HD)

We got a chance to tour the beautiful Illinois State Capitol building, which was constructed in 1868, in Springfield. It is a National Register of Historic Places. Across the street was a Martin Luther King statue, then at the grounds before the building itself, we saw a Abraham Lincoln and a Stephen Douglas statue. Inside the Illinois Statehouse, there was a lady statue representing the Illinois Welcoming the World message. The rotunda high ceiling was very impressive, as are the floors and stairs which are made of stone and marble.

Second and third floor had statues of former presidents highlighted by President Lincoln, plus a huge painting depicting George Rogers Clark negotiating with Native Americans at Fort Kaskaskia. There are also wall carvings depicting meetings of US personnel with native Americans in the past.

Overall this is a very impressive State Capitol Building that definitely deserves a visit. We also visited the Lincoln Home National Historic Site nearby- see our tour video of it here:
