South Lakes Safari Zoo is a 51-acre zoo established in 1994 by David Gill, and located in Cumbria, England. Its name refers to its proximity to the Lake District, though it lies entirely within the Borough of Barrow-in-Furness on the outskirts of Dalton. After an initial rapid growth, the zoo became one of Cumbria's most successful tourist attractions. However, under Gill's onwership the zoo had a number of controversies, emerging both from his personal life and his management of the zoo. Significant concerns over animal welfare and the death of an employee eventually led to Gill losing his license to operate the zoo in 2017, which has under a new management team seen a marked improvement in animal welfare.

The gardens of Cambo are open to the public, and include the walled garden and seasonal snowdrop gardens. Galanthus is a small genus of about 20 species of bulbous herbaceous plants in the family Amaryllidaceae, subfamily Amaryllidoideae. Most flower in winter, before the vernal equinox in the Northern Hemisphere. The Scottish Snowdrop Festival starts each year from February 1st. From the Latin name meaning ' milk flower ', these tiny green and white flowers are amongst the first blossoms to emerge in the new year. In the mid 19th century soldiers in the Crimean War brought them back from the battlefields to plant in their gardens. Today they thrive throughout Scotland, in gardens, damp woods and on river banks. At locations throughout Scotland, you’ll find snowdrop after snowdrop, bringing brightness and magic to your day.
