Exploring the Carpathian Mountains - Ukraine
The Carpathian Mountains are the second largest mountain range in Europe that stretch across 7 countries, one of them being Ukraine! My diverse tour with Cobblestone Freeway allowed me to breathe in the fresh air of the Eastern Carpathian Mountains and enjoy natural beauty, traditional villages, and experience a lifestyle that has remained unchanged for centuries. The journey was a memorable one and here are my favorite highlights!

This is Ukraine: Hiking in Gorgany/Ґорґани (Carpathian Mountains)
This is Ukraine!
For several years now Ukraine has been on top of our list of hiking destinations. Somehow we had the gut feeling that in Ukraine we could find all the aspects we look for in a hiking trip without ever being there or having specific information that triggered us. The information we had about Ukraine was based on the mainstream media and mostly focused on the 2009 revolution and the ongoing conflict in the East of Ukraine. For that reason many people we met during our preparation asked us if it was safe to go to Ukraine at the moment. Next to that in Western Europe we have the perception that Ukraine is far away, while it is actually closer to for example The Netherlands then Greece is. After our trip we can say that our instincts where right and we hope that we can show this with our video. Please enjoy!

Hiking polonina Svidovec with Mavic | Ukraine | Поход в Карпаты на массив Свидовец, аэросъемка
3 day long hike over polonina Svidovec in Ukrainian Carpathian with DJI Mavic Pro. From Yasinia to Ust Corna and Kolochava.
We started our hiking trip in the village Yasina, which is very easy to reach by train.
At the first day our elevation difference was about 900 meters and we built our tent behind Dragobrat near the water spring.
Polonina Svidovec stretches for 50km between cities of Rakhiv and Ust Corna. We hiked almost the whole length of polonina, ascending many peaks like Bliznitsa, Stohy, Mencul, Tempa...
During one day we were usually walking for about 11-15 k. We were very happy to finish our hike in the village Ust'-Čorna, however our happiness didn't last long as we found out there was no public transport and we had to go to Kolocava by foot. We were lucky that one local man helped us and brought us through the villages Ruska Moikra and Nimetska Mokra by car. From there on we had to continue by foot. Roads in that part are really bad and we totally understand why there is no public transportation there. In total we walked for about 60km. Despite these logistic difficulties, Karpaty are wonderful during the summer and we will definitely go there again and again.

Biking in Eastern Europe Mainly Ukraine Carpathian Mountains
Had a pretty amazing time bike riding through much of Ukraine's Carpathian mountains this past summer.
The second related video which is focused on the Romania parts is here:
Also, I have a website which has full details on the individual routes and maps of each day, that is here:
I actually went on two separate rides, the first was with my friend David who is from the country Georgia. It was great riding with him on his first bike tour, especially because he speaks Russian which allowed us to communicate better with some of the Ukrainian folks who did not understand my english or my Czech. But even if I could not always communicate, it was an AWESOME trip. I would very highly recommend bike riding through the carpathian mountains to anybody.
We rode from the border crossing in north western Romania over the river and then went to Jasna, and up around Vrhotka and then down towards Chernicvi. I am for sure not spelling the names of the towns properly, but you can find your way though the mountains on several different routes. We ended up in Odessa for a week of partying and soaking up the sun in Mid August. Had our fair share of good food and relax there after about a month of cruising.
We started the trip in Kosice, Slovakia, then went through North EASTERN Hungary, where they speak almost zero english. Then had 4 days in Romania. I LOVED ROMANIA!!!!!!!
Breb, Romania is a must visit if you are in North West romania. Breb is a traditional village and lots of good stuff there for tourists.
Actually, I wish we stayed in Breb longer, it would have for sure been great.
On the second bike trip, I was by Myself and I rode from Ostrava, Czech Republic north to poland.
First day I rode to Rybnik, Poland.
After that I rode from Rybnik to Bielsko Bialla, Poland
After that from Bielsko to Sucha Bezkidska, Poland
After that from Sucha Bezkidska to Nowy Sacz (was 121 km that day...)
After that from Nowy Sacz to Foulaz, Poland
After that from Foulaz, to Sanok, Poland
After that from Sanok to Przemysl, Poland
After that I crossed the border into Ukraine..so it was
Przemysl to Lviv, Ukraine (over 100 km that day...but very flat and border crossing into Ukraine was uneventful.)
After that(spent a week in Lviv...was great and I would highly recommend anybody to check out that city if you are on bike)
so Lviv to Truskavets
Truskavets to Skole
Skole to Volokovets
Volokovets to Mukachevo, Ukraine
Mukachevo to Kosice

The Carpathian Mountains or Carpathians (/kɑːrˈpeɪθiənz/) are a mountain range system forming an arc roughly 1,500 km (932 mi) long across Central and Eastern Europe, making them the second-longest mountain range in Europe (after the Scandinavian Mountains, 1,700 km (1,056 mi)).
They provide the habitat for the largest European populations of brown bears, wolves, chamois, and lynxes, with the highest concentration in Romania,[1][2][3] as well as over one third of all European plant species. The Carpathians and their foothills also have many thermal and mineral waters, with Romania having one-third of the European total. Romania is likewise home to the second-largest surface of virgin forests in Europe after Russia, totaling 250,000 hectares (65%), most of them in the Carpathians,[7] with the Southern Carpathians constituting Europe's largest unfragmented forested area.[8]
The Carpathians consist of a chain of mountain ranges that stretch in an arc from the Czech Republic (3%) in the northwest through Slovakia (17%), Poland (10%), Hungary (4%) and Ukraine (10%) Serbia (5%) and Romania (50%) in the southeast.[9][10][11][12] The highest range within the Carpathians is the Tatras, on the border of Slovakia and Poland, where the highest peaks exceed 2,600 m (8,530 ft). The second-highest range is the Southern Carpathians in Romania, where the highest peaks exceed 2,500 m (8,202 ft)
