The Kozhikode metropolitan area is the second largest urban agglomeration in Kerala with a population of 2 million as of 2011. The city lies about 275 km south west of Bangalore, 235 km south of Mangalore and 525 km northwest of Chennai. During classical antiquity and the Middle Ages, Kozhikode was dubbed the City of Spices for its role as the major trading point of Indian spices.     The EMS Corporation Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Kozhikode, India. Currently used mostly for football matches.The stadium is currently the home of I league side Gokulam Kerala FC and holds more than 85,000 people and was built in 1977. It is equipped with floodlights for conducting both football and cricket matches. The stadium is named after the Communist leader E. M. S. Namboodiripad who was the first Chief Minister of Kerala.
