Kukës is a city in the Republic of Albania. The city is the capital of the surrounding municipality of Kukës and county of Kukës, one of 12 constituent counties of the republic. It spans 8.2 square kilometres and had a total population of 16,719 people as of 2011. By air distance, Kukës is located 98 kilometres northeast of Tirana, 75 kilometres to the east of Shkodër and 34 kilometres to the south of Gjakovë and 30 kilometres to the east of Prizren in Kosovo.
