Reunion Island: Waterfalls & Lava!

This was one of our favourite days in Reunion Island. We got to experience an amazing waterfall (Anse Falls) which is right next to the ocean.
We also visited Jardin des Parfum as well as Lava Flows.

Pour protéger cette biodiversité extraordinaire, les Parcs nationaux français ont mis en place la marque Esprit Parc national. Cette marque met en valeur les acteurs du tourisme qui oeuvrent à la protection de la faune et de la flore du parc national.

Nous avons eu la chance de les rencontrer et ils ont définitivement donné une autre dimension à notre voyage :)

UNESCO Réunion World Heritage Site

During the 34th session of the World Heritage Committee meeting in Brasilia since 25 July, the Pitons,cirques and remparts of Reunion Island were added (amongst 21 new sites) to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The Pitons, cirques and remparts of Reunion Island site coincides with the core zone of La Réunion National Park. The property covers more than 100,000 ha or 40 % of La Réunion, an island comprising two adjoining volcanic massifs located in the south-west of the Indian Ocean. Dominated by two towering volcanic peaks, massive walls and three cliff-rimmed cirques, the property includes a great variety of rugged terrain and impressive escarpments, forested gorges and basins creating a visually striking landscape. It is the natural habitat for a wide diversity of plants, presenting a high level of endemism. There are subtropical rainforests, cloud forests and heaths creating a remarkable and visually appealing mosaic of ecosystems and landscape features.
