Places to see in ( La Spezia - Italy )
La Spezia is a port city in Liguria, Italy. Its 1800s maritime arsenal and the Technical Naval Museum, with ship models and navigational instruments, attest to the city’s seafaring heritage. The hilltop St. George’s Castle houses an archaeological museum with artifacts from prehistory to the Middle Ages. The nearby Amedeo Lia Museum exhibits paintings, bronze sculptures and illuminated miniatures in a former convent. It's an understandable oversight. Situated minutes to the east of Cinque Terre by train, and sidling up to the exquisite Lerici and Tellaro, this hard-working port town and home to Italy's largest naval base is routinely overlooked.
But it's not only an affordable place to overnight if you're heading to the Cinque Terre, it's really worthy of at least a wander – the winding streets of the old town are hugely atmospheric and there are plenty of cosy trattorias showcasing the Ligurian kitchen's finest. La Spezia's bustle peaks on 19 March, the feast day of the city's patron saint, San Giuseppe (St Joseph). Celebrations see a giant market fill the port and surrounding streets, and the naval base (off-limits the rest of the year) opens to the public.
Beaches overlooking a crystal-clear sea, spectacular views, a marvelous artistic legacy, and small villages set within green valleys, alive with ancient traditions: all this and much more await the visitor in the Province of La Spezia. One of the most wonderful stretches of the Ligurian Riviera can be found here: Golfo dei Poeti, Poets’ Gulf, named for the love that many great writers and poets have demonstrated for this land. Steep cliffs, dense pine woods, romantic coves and exceptional beaches, along with picturesque villages perched atop the bluffs, draw the coastal landscape, striking the visitor's eye with all their beauty.
Lerici, Portovenere, the Island of Palmaria and the Islets of Tino and Tinetto are the best-known destinations, with La Spezia at the Gulf's center. Eventually, the visitor arrives at one of the most beautiful scenes of Italy, the Cinque Terre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site (together with Porto Venere) for their extraordinary relationship between man and nature, a harmonious balance that stuns the visitor.
The Cinque Terre (the Five Lands) are five villages - Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso al Mare. These are places to discover one after the other, with each boasting its own natural and artistic treasures. Along the furthest stretch of La Spezia's coast lie Levanto, Bonassola, Framura and Deiva Marina, charming villages surrounded by cliffs and beaches, by green hills and the beautiful sea.
La Spezia Province, however, is not made up of its littoral alone. The interior has many hidden treasures as well. Green forests, rolling hills, wide valleys marked by the many streams, and Medieval villages unite to form astonishing landscape, filled with history and ancient traditions, removed from the noise of modern life, where people still lovingly work the land - actions reciprocated, of course, by the harvests that characterize the local cuisine.
( La Spezia - Italy ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting La Spezia . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in La Spezia - Italy

Hiking All of Cinque Terre, Italy IN ONE DAY
If you've ever wondered what it's like to hike Cinque Terre, this is it. Come along as we hike from Monterosso to Riomaggiore and explore Vernazza, Corniglia, and Manarola along the way.
I also wanted to give you an overall travel guide to hiking Cinque Terre, so here are all the distances and details (with timestamps from the video):
Start: 9.21am get off train in Monterosso (0:01)
30 minutes - explore Monterosso, walk over to trail head (0:13)
9.57am - Buy tickets on the trail, 7.50 euro each. (0:41) Medium-ly difficult hike to Vernazza on main Coastal Trail #2 (0:48) (3.3km, 2.1mi)
11.20am - Arrive in Vernazza (1:32), explore for 40 minutes, or an hour if you want to go up to the castle
12.00 noon - difficult hike to Corniglia on main Coastal Trail #2 (2:02). Up from Vernazza is hard, but going down to Corniglia is easy. (3.2km, 2mi)
1.25pm - Arrive in Corniglia (2:26), Explore for 35 minutes
2.00pm - Very difficult hike to Manarola via Volastra. (3:01) Trail #2 was still closed due to landslides. We took Trail 587 (also known as 7a depending on which sign you're looking at) - very difficult climb, but pretty. Hike up 30 minutes until it connects with Trail 586 (still called trail 7a on some maps, also 6d) at 3:23. Take a right and climb a little higher until it levels out. Follow this for 50 minutes through vineyards straight into Volastra (4:25) and you'll see signs for Manarola. This is Trail 506 (or 6).
Down the 1100+ steps for 10 minutes (4:39). (total 5.5km, 3.4mi)
3.52pm - Arrive in Manarola (4:45), explore for 1 hour (includes eating too)
4.50pm - Via dell'Amore is still closed, so we took Trail 531 up and over (5:37). Very steep up (600+ stairs), slippery steep rock/sandy trail down. Difficult, but short. (1km, 0.62mi)
5.38pm - Arrive in Riomaggiore (6:35)
5.45pm - Take the train back to La Spezia (6:45)
This is part 6 of a 10-day road-trip/train-trip through Switzerland and Italy around Easter 2016. Start the journey with us from the beginning here:
