I flew down to Zürich and took a train to get into the mountains of Graubünden - a lovely, picturesque ride which got me straight into the winter mood. The next morning I got up early for the Early Bird skiing in the Parsenn ski area with my guide Beat, an activity which is part of the free Davos Klosters Inside Program:
davos.ch/en/winter/activities/davos-klosters-inside/
Beside skiing I visited the igloo village and had a behind the scenes look of the slope and rescue service before enjoying dinner at Damoro restaurant in town. After a very active day we went to see an ice hockey match of the HC Davos the following day and got to ice skate at the Eistraum ice skating rink of Davos.
The second ski area we got to experience was the cozy Rinerhorn with its slopes running through the forest and its great huts e.g. Spina. Later that day we even went for some night sledding combined with a pasta dinner - a true adrenaline rush!
To experience the magical winter landscape Davos Klosters has to offer off the ski areas our guide André took as to the Sertig valley to go snowshoeing and to see frozen waterfalls...finished by another tasty dinner at the Pöstli Grill to charge up for the next ski area.
The Pischa mountain is the most relaxed of all ski areas and the perfect place to go fat biking. We gave it a try and wanted more adrenaline rush, so we switched to airboarding and raced down the pischa mountain in no time. Highly recommended!
We finished this trip at the Jakobshorn with a visit to the Jatzhütte, a hut popular for its legendary parties…and the highest hot tub in Europe - just the right spot to enjoy a last view of the magestic alps before heading back home.
As always feel free to leave more recommendations in the comment section below for future visitors of Davos Klosters as I only focussed on the highlights in this part of Switzerland.

Swiss Railway Journeys - RhB Davos Line
Join us on a ride along the Rhaetian Railway's scenic metre gauge Davos Line from Landquart to Davos and Filisur in south eastern Switzerland, along the Prättigau and Landwasser valleys.
We begin our autumn journey at Landquart, where the RhB makes a connection with the Swiss Federal Railway's main line, before taking the little red train through farming countryside. Along the way we pause at the traditional village of Saas and visit the internationally famous winter sports resort of Klosters, playground of the British royal family.
We look at the history of the RhB, and join in special celebrations to mark the centenary of the line, including an excursion hauled by the original locomotive No.1 Rhatia, double heading with loco 107, 100 years to the day from the opening of the route, but this time in snow.
We pause to look at the town of Davos, now a sporting and conference venue, although originally famous as a health resort. We change trains to continue the journey along the wild route to Filisur, through numerous tunnels cut into the mountainside, and over the spectacular Wiesen viaduct.
Journey's end is at the charming village of Filisur, where it is possible to make a connection with the Rhaetian Railway's Albula Line.

Switzerland with Great Rail Journeys
Glittering mountain peaks of grey and white, bountiful meadows of dancing yellow and blue flowers, azure lakes of pure waters – Switzerland is a landscape painting of immense natural beauty and exquisite pure splendour. The attraction of Switzerland is not only to be found in the abundance of nature, but also in the charming towns and cities which nestle in the green valleys of these remarkable mountain ranges. Delightful resorts such as Zermat and Interlaken are made up of classic Swiss buildings and chalets, with cobbled squares playing host to an array of restaurants and cafés.
Crisscrossing this chocolate-box nation is a well-maintained, modern rail network which features some of the best rail journeys in the world including the spectacular Glacier Express across the breadth of the country, and the sublime Bernina Express which runs all the way from Chur into the Italian town of Tirano. It is also home to the highest railway station in Europe, the Jungfraujoch at the summit of the mighty Jungfraujoch.
In this video, our Switzerland Product Manager Sarah Moore takes us through some of her favourite things about Switzerland, from the railway network to the traditional villages, and from the traffic free tranquillity of Kandersteg to the sumptuous cuisine.
For more information on our Swiss tours, their itineraries and prices, be sure to take a look at our website at greatrail.com or give us a ring on 01904 521936.
