100 Incredible Things to Do and See in Iceland
Iceland | | Closer than you think and far stranger than you imagine, visit Iceland for one of the most amazing experiences of your life.
Over the millennia, glaciers, erosion and the tectonic movement of the Earth's crust have helped to shape the landscape.
Winter is the time of amazing contrasts. Peaceful white snow accentuates the black lava fields, resulting in magical artistry. On winter evenings the blackness of the sky may be suddenly disturbed by dancing, flickering veils of light, in green, white or red, for the northern lights are often visible in cold, clear weather.
Spring is the time when the sun climbs ever higher, warming up the earth and all living things. Green vegetation turns red, yellow or brown, resulting in picturesquely colourful landscapes.
Many places in Iceland are a paradise for bird-watchers. Látrabjarg in the West Fjords is the largest birdcliff known in the world.
Iceland is among the 10 best destinations worldwide for whale watching -- large groups of killer whales, mink whales and dolphins can be sighted in the harbour and just off-shore in the Grundarfjord and Kolgrafarfjord on the north coast of the Snaefellsnes peninsula.

What to see in Iceland and Iceland Vacation Ideas
1.) Iceland hidden waterfalls -Bjarnarfoss 0:26 mark in the Iceland Vacation Video): located in the Snaefellsnes Peninsula about 2 hours from Reykevik by car.
2.) Secret Waterfall in Iceland - Haifoss Waterfall (0:12 in the Iceland Travel video). There isn’t much around this area, but it is a stunning waterfall with not many people around. This is a 2 hour drive from Reykjavik and the road is fairly rough so 4WD is recommended. The other thing to check out in this area is Gjáin which is a little oasis that many locals call a hidden gem of Iceland. Make sure to stop at Friðheimar on your way for the best tomato soup on the planet!
3.) Best Waterfalls in Iceland- Glymur Waterfall (1:00 mark in the Iceland cinematic travel video): This is a 4 mile hike with a lot of elevation gain but the views along the hike are spectacular as you get closer and closer to one of the tallest waterfalls in Iceland. Once you reach the top and if you feel adventurous, you can wade through the ice cold river and complete the entire loop trail (Pro Tip: this is how you avoid crowds).
4.) Lesser known waterfall in Iceland (off the beaten path) - Dynjandi Waterfall (3:02): This was probably the most spectacular waterfall IMO. You can walk right up to it and get soaked. You can also find little gaps in the crowds for some amazing pictures. There were a bunch of people here but if you go early or late you can avoid crowds. This is a tough one to get too and a long drive but what the locals call a west Iceland hidden gem.
5.) Hidden waterfalls in Iceland- Svödufoss (0:23 seconds in the Iceland travel videos). We discovered this waterfall randomly while driving.
6.) Free Iceland Hot Springs - Reykjadalur hot springs (1:48 in cinematic Iceland travel video) 45 minutes from Reykjavik. Go early to avoid crowds. If you go early enough and hike fast you might have the whole river to yourself like we did. About a 45 minute hike in and out.
7.) Free Hot springs in Iceland (locals call them hot pots) - Hörgshliðarlaug Swimming Pool (1:19 in Vacation film). Located in the westfjords. We went here early. This is a private swimming pool and you will want to ask for permission about 2km down the road. This was the best hot spring in Iceland IMO.
8.) Favorite spots in Iceland- Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon (1:41 in the Vacation Video): This can get a little crowded so you should go early or late. The canyon is spectacular. Great place to fly the drone and get a unique perspective.
9.) West Iceland hidden gems- Látrabjarg Cliffs (0:45 seconds in the travel video). These were simply spectacular and we had the whole place to ourselves. If you’re in search of puffins this is a good place to start. I don’t feel like the video does this place justice. The cliffs just keep climbing and climbing seemingly forever. I was in awe of this area and was one of my favorite places of the trip. This was the most underrated spot in Iceland IMO
10 Iceland Travel Tips for your summer trip to Iceland
• Avoiding Crowds in Iceland: Wake up early or go late to the most popular places. Use the extended daylight to your advantage. Do some research and find some hidden gems. We used the Iceland Photographer Map: it’s a great way to find some off the beaten path hidden gems.
• Seek out as many free Iceland hotsprings as possible. Bring your swimsuit and travel towel everywhere.
• Stock up with Beer and wine at the airport and search for happy hour deals because alcohol is expensive in Iceland (everything is expensive in Iceland).
• Buy a hotdog instead of a $30 burger. Or just don’t eat out and buy meals to cook.
• Rent Trawire for Wifi everywhere you go. This was a life saver for navigation and very reasonably priced.
• Skip Reykjavik. You didn’t come to Iceland to see the city life.

Iceland - Why it's the Most Beautiful Country on Earth! | 4K
My 8 day adventure of riding a BMW 700 GS around the Ring Road of Iceland, across ice fields, glaciers, arctic tundra, volcanoes and breathtaking waterfalls!
My favorite video this month - LADAKH- A Himalayan Motorcycle Adventure Trailer -
Game of Thrones is filmed here , but that's the tip of the Iceberg of the enormous beauty and greatness Iceland has to offer.
This was a one man production using a tripod, and Drone shots were accomplished by myself driving the motorcycle with one hand while simultaneously flying the drone manually with the other using two fingers, it was terribly difficult and many of the shots took multiple tries.
Big thanks to JD Smith at , for getting me out to Iceland to experience it by motorcycle

Top 13 Attractions in Iceland according to Lonely Planet
Top 13 Attractions in Iceland according to Lonely Planet
13. Kerlingarfjöll
Kerlingarfjöll is a mountain range in Iceland situated in the Highlands of Iceland near the Kjölur highland road. The volcanic origin of these mountains is evidenced by the numerous hot springs and rivulets in the area. And indeed, they are part of a large volcano system of 100 km2. The volcanoes of the range are tuyas.
12. Heimaey & Vestmannaeyjar
Vestmannaeyjar is a town on the island Heimaey. Heimaey is the largest of 15-18 islands in the Westman Islands archipelago, located just off the south-west coast of Iceland's mainland. The Westman Islands were formed by submarine volcanic eruptions along a 30 km long fissure lying south-west to north-east. Most of the islands have steep sea cliffs, and are well vegetated.
11. Snæfellsnes Peninsula
The Snæfellsnes is a peninsula situated to the west of Borgarfjörður, in western Iceland. It has been named Iceland in Miniature, because many national sights can be found in the area, including the Snæfellsjökull volcano, regarded as one of the symbols of Iceland.
10. Reykjavík's Cafe Culture & Beer Bars
Iceland's capital is rather wee by international standards, but the city's ratio of coffee houses to citizens is nothing short of staggering. In fact, the local social culture is built around these low-key hang-outs that crank up the intensity after hours, when tea is swapped for tipples and dance moves break out on the sticky floors.
9. Tröllaskagi Peninsula
Tröllaskagi is a peninsula in northern Iceland between the fjords of Eyjafjörður and Skagafjörður. The peninsula is mountainous with several peaks reaching over 1000 meters above sea level, the tallest is Kerling (1538 m). It is the part of Iceland with the highest elevation outside the central highlands.
8. Fimmvörðuháls
Fimmvörðuháls is the area between the glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull in southern Iceland. The route between Skógar and Thórsmörk goes through this pass and is one of the most popular walking routes in Iceland, despite being 22 km long and involving 1,000 m of climbing.
7. Borgarfjörður Eystri & Seyðisfjörður
Borgarfjörður Eystri is a fjord in east Iceland. The town derives its name from the Álfaborg (Elf Rock). Some of the locals believe that the queen of the elves lives in the Álfaborg. The main attraction for visitors is hiking. Borgarfjörður Eystri is also home to a large puffin colony.
6. Vatnajökull National Park
Vatnajökull National Park is one of three national parks in Iceland. It encompasses all of Vatnajökull glacier and extensive surrounding areas. These include the national parks previously existing at Skaftafell in the southwest and Jökulsárgljúfur in the north.
5. Driving the Ring Road
There's no better way to explore Iceland than to hire your own set of wheels and loop around Rte 1 -- affectionately known as the Ring Road. The ovular strip of cement loops around the island in a clock-like fashion, passing through verdant dales decked with tumbling chutes, haunting glacial lagoons with popcorn-like icebergs, desolate strands of sea coast and arid plains of parched lava fields.
4. Northern Lights
The Northern Lights or aurora borealis are a natural phenomenon that can paint the night sky with unearthly, surreal color. The Aurorae are caused by charged particles ejected from the sun. When these particles reach the earth, they collide with gas atoms and molecules in the earth's upper atmosphere, energising them and creating a spectacular multi-coloured light show.
3. Jökulsárlón
Jökulsárlón is a large glacial lake in southeast Iceland, on the edge of Vatnajökull National Park. Situated at the head of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, it developed into a lake after the glacier started receding from the edge of the Atlantic Ocean.
2. Westfjords
The Westfjords are very mountainous; the coastline is heavily indented by dozens of fjords surrounded by steep hills. These indentations make roads very circuitous and communications by land difficult. The cliffs at Látrabjarg comprise the longest bird cliff in the northern Atlantic Ocean and are at the westernmost point in Iceland.
1. Getting into Hot Water
Iceland's unofficial pastime is splashing around its surplus of geothermal water. There are 'hot-pots' everywhere -- from downtown Reykjavík to the isolated peninsular tips of the Westfjords -- and not only are they incredibly relaxing, they're a great way to meet the locals.

Island Rundreise mit Offroad-Camper. In 22 Tagen. Auf der Ringstraße, durch die Westfjorde und das Hochland.
