10 THINGS TO DO ON SIQUIJOR ISLAND, PHILIPPINES:
1. STAY ON THE BEACH
Most visitors who come to Siquijor Island stay on the west coast around San Juan, there’s a few hostels and restaurants, and a nice beach call Paliton. Honestly, I didn’t spend much time over there.
Instead, I opted for a little beach cottage on the east side, north of Larena - Casa de La Playa.
2. RENT A SCOOTER
I was told before my trip to The Philippines that renting a scooter was the best way to get around on most islands, and this was my first time experiencing it.
The simple freedom and local access made this one of my favorite aspects of the entire three month trip.
3. VISIT LAZI CHURCH
Built with sea stones and wood by Filipino artisans in 1884, was declared a National Cultural Treasure and nominated for the UNESCO World Heritage list.
4. ROPE SWING AT CAMUGAHAY FALLS
A short drive from Lazi Church is one of the most visited attractions on the island, Camugahay Calls.
You can get a guide at the entrance, and it’s nice to help the local economy, but it’s really not necessary.
5. VISIT LAZI
Next up, it’s over to the sleepy town of Lazi for lunch.
6. EAT PANDESAL
Simple dinner-roll-style bread that is served up in most bakeries around Siquijor Island.
7. VISIT CENTURY OLD BALETE TREE
Experience the very weird feeling of having your feet nibbled on by small fish at the base of a beautiful old Balete Tree.
8. CLIFF JUMP SALAGDOONG BEACH
The most popular attraction on Siquijor Island is the two diving boards at Salagdoong Beach.
9. PORTSIDE CAFE IN LARENA
Have a massive cheeseburger at the Portside Cafe in Larena. This is a good spot to eat if you are waiting for the ferry
10. SUNSET AT MT. BANDILAAN TOWER
Traverse through the small villages and up above the tree line to Mt. Bandilaan for sunset. The tower is not an easy thing to find so be sure to ask a local on your way up.

Do you ever go to a place that everyone else loves but you just don't connect with it in that way? I think they call it Paris syndrome.
I felt that way about the Philippines the first time I went in 2013. I just didn't love it, but I could never really articulate why.
I realized that if I couldn't come up with a good reason, it meant that perhaps it was ME who was the problem the first time around. I knew that I had to return to see if that was the case.
I'm so happy to say that this time around, I had a change of heart. The locals in the Philippines were so friendly, that even when things went wrong like they did in Siargao, it turned out to be a beautiful experience. I am thankful that I got to go back and have a change of heart, but it felt dishonest not to talk about the experience I went into this Philippines trip with, and I wanted to share the truth with you!
Now I know, this is a place I'll keep coming back to. A BIG THANK YOU to all of the amazing locals who turned my impressions around this time.

This was our first day in Siquijor (Philippines) We rented a scooter to explore the island and found a really beautiful deserted beach.. Later on we visited the Century old balete tree and had a great massage from some fishes lol. Also met some local kids once again and had an interesting ending to the day! Siquijor is a really great relaxing place to visit in the Philippines.

FUN THINGS TO DO IN SIQUIJOR - Philippines Travel Vlog Ep 17
Here are some fun things to do on Siquijor Island, Philippines.
In order of the places we visited:
1. Cambugahay Falls - I recommend going early before a lot of people get there.
2. St Isidore de Labrador Church
3. Secret beach (That’s not the real name of it… it’s literally just a secret beach. Ask Chris at Lazy Lizard Hostel for directions if you want to go here. It’s a nice spot… but it’s not the best beach since it’s not really sand, just dead coral. It’s definitely an adventure to get there since it’s way off the main road and you need to ride through the jungle for a while. I think the journey getting there was actually more exciting than the destination itself.
4. Paradise Bay - I don’t think we went to the right place because the spot we ended up was not really much of paradise at all. I wasn’t in charge of directions so I blame that on the girls :) I just googled Paradise Bay and photos show a place much different haha
5. Coco Grove - There’s a place to swim and pay a small fee to snorkel. I met someone who said it was really nice to snorkel there. We didn't snorkel, but we ended up just relaxing at the Resort which was very beautiful… and if you just act confident, no-one will care that you use the facilities ;) (You can park your bike on the side of the resort. You'll see other bikes parked there. Then you can walk around and enter the resort from the beach.)
6. Lugnason Falls + Zodiac Falls - Highly recommend visiting these beautiful falls. Again, to beat the crowd, it’s best to go about an hour and a half before sunset which will give you enough time to explore and there probably won’t be many people.
7. Salagdoong Beach - This is a popular place for tourists and local families. Weekends are usually much more crowded since it’s a public beach and many local families come for BBQs. Overall, it was a nice spot to swim and relax. The waterslide wasn't operational when I was there but are some platforms you can use for cliff jumping.

The Hidden Gem of The Philippines - You need to go here!
Siquijor is shockingly beautiful! From the incredible Cambugahay Falls, to Salagdoong beach, to Lazi, to the stunning Paliton Beach, Siquijor is full of beautiful tropical surprises, and best of all, way less touristy than other parts of the Philippines. Siquijor has it all, from snorkelling reefs and swimming with sea turtles to the best waterfall series in the Philippines! What about Kawasan Falls? While Kawasan Falls is beautiful, it is way more built up with tourist traps and is really over crowded. Cambugahay falls in Siquijor has that same deep emerald blue colour, has multiple tiers, much less built up and far less people.
In this video I take you to the Century Old Tree which is a unique old tree with a fish pond. These fish offer your tired feet a welcomed pedicure. From there I head to Lazi, taste some delicious fresh bread from the bakery and stop at “Twenty 4” for lunch. They have a great mix of western food, and Filipino food! Just north of Lazi is San Isidro Labrador Parish Church (Lazi Church). It is one of the oldest, dating back to 1884 and as of March 2019 is currently undergoing renovations. If you’re a fan of resort travel, on Siquijor you have the choice of San Juan or the northern tip of Larena. San Juan is for those that want a bit busier and modern feel, North Larena is more for slower paced secluded private beach area. If you’re a bit more adventurous, try renting a scooter and riding up Mount Bandilaan and climb the 20m tower for sunset. It gives you a 360 degree view of the whole island and it is stunning at sunset. Make sure you get there early though as its possible to get lost on the way up.Pro tip: Make sure to download Google Maps Offline, there are a few areas on Siquijor without reception. Overall for SIM Card, I found Smart to be better than Globe. However, there were a few small areas away from civilization where Globe was a little better. I just got both sim cards for 200 Pesos each.
All in all, Siquijor is one of my top places to visit in the Philippines as you have so many incredible destinations to see with far less people than the more popular islands in the Philippines. I would still make sure you do El Nido, just include Siquijor in your travels too!
