Lefkimmi is a town and a former municipality on the island of Corfu, Ionian Islands, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Corfu, of which it is a municipal unit. Its land area is 50.819 km² and its population was 5,800 at the 2011 census. The fortress covers the promontory which initially contained the old town of Corfu that had emerged during Byzantine times.Before the Venetian era the promontory, which lies between the Gulf of Kerkyra to the North and Garitsa Bay to the south, was defended by Byzantine fortifications which the Venetians largely replaced with fortifications of their own design. The beginning of a long and amazing voyage across Greece, a dream come true. From Sarande, Albania, I caught a mid day ferry to the port town of Corfu of the island of the same name, Corfu, my first island. The first few hours of my arrival was spent walking around the former Venetian town and old fortress. Due to budget reasons and the fact that high season just started, cheap accommodation was only found in the north of the island near the town of Sidari.

After hitchhiking much of the Balkans, I figured why not try hitchhiking the island. I found myself catching rides over to Palaiokastritsa, a beautiful beach area with a small fortress. After a nice swim, I made it over to a local cliffside bar to jump from before making it back to Sidari's Canal d'amor to catch the sunset and take in the fact that I made it. :)

After a successful acceptance to stay with a couchsurfing host on Paxos island, I made my way down to my next island. Paxos is one of my favorite islands as it's the perfect place to slow down time and simply relax. I spent most of my time in the port Gaios, Loggos, and the sea town in the north Lakka. I also managed to take the short boat ride down to Voutoumi beach on Antipaxos, one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever swam in, cave hopping and soaking under the Ionian sun.

These island are the most perfect start to an amazinf two months in my dream country. From here, continues my voyage across north east Greece. :) Cheers

Voluntary a National Park in Greece

Hi !!
I am Bony, a 23 years old french girl and I was volunteer in Greece last year. I did an 11 months European Voluntary Service in a little Greek village named Dadia, that is 10 km from the Turkish border. I was working with the NGO WWF (World Wildlife Fund) that monitor birds there (especially vultures), in the Dadia's National Park. My main activities were to stay into the forest during 6 or 12 hours, watching (count, observe behaviors...) birds with binoculars or telescope, or to help workers to do others various tasks.
I arrived there without any knowledges about birds and this year was really interesting for me ! It made me change a lot, in the good way !! Moreover, I learnt so much !! I was integrated into different cultures (Greek and Turkish), I improved my language skills and I met so much great people !!!
About the video, I realized it in Greece, with french friends that came one week to visit me during my service. I made it to present EVS program to Greek students from universities of my Greek area.

I think that, to open our minds to different countries, to travel, to live with customs of other countries, is the best way to live in the real actual world and to evolve !!
