Leh is a town in the Leh district of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It was the capital of the Himalayan kingdom of Ladakh, the seat of which was in the Leh Palace, the former mansion of the royal family of Ladakh, built in the same style and about the same time as the Potala Palace in Tibet - the chief residence of the Dalai Lama until the 14th Dalai Lama fled to Dharamshala, India, during the 1959 Tibetan uprising.   • 1. Magnetic Hill Leh
    Magnet Hill is a Cyclops hill located near Leh in Ladakh, India. The layout of the area and surrounding slopes create the appearance of a hill. The hill road is actually a downhill road. Objects and cars on the hill road may appear to roll uphill in defiance of gravity when they are, in fact, rolling downhill.The other two such magnetic hills are in Gujarat. One is near Bhuj and other at Tulsi Shyam.

  • 5. Pangong Tso Leh
    Pangong Tso , Tibetan for high grassland lake, also referred to as Pangong Lake, is an endorheic lake in the Himalayas situated at a height of about 4,350 m . It is 134 km long and extends from India to China. Approximately 60% of the length of the lake lies in China. The lake is 5 km wide at its broadest point. All together it covers 604 km2. During winter the lake freezes completely, despite being saline water. It is not a part of Indus river basin area and geographically a separate land locked river basin.The lake is in the process of being identified under the Ramsar Convention as a wetland of international importance. This will be the first trans-boundary wetland in South Asia under the convention.

  • 7. Saspol Caves Leh
    Saspol Caves are situated in the hills behind Saspol, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, India, which is about 76 km from the city centre of Leh. Paintings exist in five temples, two of them extensively damaged. One of the painted caves, that have been given a coat of lime wash and red paint in the exterior is the most visited and has been considered as the main cave. Extensive paintings of anuttarayoga tantra images of the main caves is very rare during the period of executution of these paintings. These caves are under the administration of Likir Monastery. Very few early period painted cave temples exist in Ladakh and these paintings are dated to 15th Century CE. The caves also known as Gon-Nila-Phuk Cave temples are in danger of total collapse and were therefore listed in 2016 World Monuments ...
