Leigh Creek is a former coal-mining town in eastern central South Australia. At the 2016 census, Leigh Creek had a population of 245, a 55% decrease from 550 in the previous census in 2011.Situated to the west of the northern Flinders Ranges, the current town is 13 km further south than the original town—it was moved in 1982 to allow the expansion of the mine. As a result, most facilities and buildings in the town are only a little over thirty years old, and with relatively modern designs. The mine and associated railway station are named Telford.

Aroona Dam is a reservoir in the Australian state of South Australia located in the gazetted locality of Leigh Creek about 5 kilometres west of the locality’s town centre.The dam consists of a concrete gravity dam of a height of 24 metres and a width of 236 metres which holds back a lake of a volume of 7.5×109 litres and which extends for a distance about 3.5 kilometres to the east of the dam wall.The origin of its name is not mentioned in sources. However, the word ‘Aroona’ is listed in the official government place name gazetteer as the name of some geographic features either adjoining the dam or located within its extent. Wilpena Pound is a natural amphitheatre of mountains located 429 kilometres north of Adelaide, South Australia, Australia in the heart of the Flinders Ranges National Park. The Pound is accessed via a sealed road which continues on to the northern Flinders Ranges town of Blinman and to the south, Hawker. Attempts at farming the Pound failed during the early 20th century. Following this the tourism potential was recognised in 1945.

The Flinders Ranges are the largest mountain range in South Australia, which starts about 200 km north of Adelaide. The discontinuous ranges stretch for over 430 km from Port Pirie to Lake Callabonna.Its most characteristic landmark is Wilpena Pound, a large, sickle-shaped, natural amphitheatre that covers 80 km2 , and contains the range's highest peak, St Mary Peak which adjoins the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park. The northern ranges are protected by the Arkaroola Protection Area and the Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges National Park. Arkaroola is the common name for the Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary, a wildlife sanctuary situated on 610 square kilometres of freehold and pastoral lease land in South Australia. It is located 700 kilometres north of the Adelaide city centre in the Northern Flinders Ranges, adjacent to the Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges National Park and the Mawson Plateau. The most common way to get there is by car, but air travel can be chartered from Parafield Airport, Adelaide Airport or Aldinga Airfield. It was used as a location set the 2002 film The Tracker.

Riversleigh Fossil Sites | Queensland's 5 World Heritage Sites

Once upon a time, the Riversleigh area of Outback Queensland was a rich rainforest area. Approximately 25 million years the land was in transition from rainforest to dry grasslands. The fossils found in the Riversleigh world heritage sites are unique because they are preserved in 3D due to the makeup of the freshwater limestone in which they have been found. The Riversleigh fossil deposits are among the richest and most extensive in the world, with some fossils dating back 15 to 25 million years. A few interesting facts about Riversleigh:

• The sites include the first records of many groups of living mammals including the ‘marsupial lion’
• The fossils span a record of mammal evolution of at least 20 million years in length.
• The variety of deposits at Riversleigh has led to an understanding of how the environment has changed over time and how the animals that lived here have changed too.

Rhythm n Rail Junee Festival, 12th to 13th March 2016

A video that is long overdue, that's for sure!

From the 12th to 13th March 2016, Junee had once again hosted their own Rhythm n Rail Festival at Junee Station. There were CPH Railmotor Rides, Bus Rides, Model Railway Exhibition, Stalls, Markets and more. This was our first time to the event.

Steam Locomotive 3237 was to take part, but the locomotive was pulled out due to mechanical problems. CPH Railmotor No.12 and 24 took over for 3237.
