Top 10 Largest Grasslands in The World | World best largest Grasslands
Before making the classification by area of the largest grasslands in the world, it is important to know what actually grasslands are. Grasslands are vast areas in which natural vegetation consists of lush-green grass running across several miles. Grasslands are characteristic of areas where there is a balance between the amount of rainfall: not too much as to support a forest and not so less to make the land barren. It is characteristic of semi-arid and semi-humid areas.
Grasslands cover about ¼ of our mother Earth’s area!
1-Nagqu Grassland in Tibet
This expansive and seemingly boundless region of grassland stretches over an area of 40,000,000 sq. km… 40 million square kilometres! Rising as high as 4500 meters, this grassland is unique due to its high elevation. This grassland is located between Tangula Mountain Range and Nyaingentanglha Range.
2-Great Plains of North America
The vastness of the Great Plains of North America is inexplicable! These grasslands almost occupy one-fourth of the area of United States. It stretches over almost ten US states including Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico. This grassland’s area is mind-boggling: 2,900,000 sq. km! The Great Plains are surrounded by the mighty Rocky Mountains on the west, Mackenzie River in the North and Rio Grande towards the South.
3-Canadian Prairies
Western Canada is home to the Canadian Prairies. This Prairie stretches from the north of Edmonton and covers 3 provinces towards the east of Manitoba-Minnesota border. The area of the Canadian Prairies is an amazing 1,780,650.6 sq. km. This extremely large area makes it the 3rd in the list of the largest grasslands in the world.
4-Australian Savanna
The Australian Savanna, also known as Australian Tropical Savanna, is situated in Northern Australia. Its area stretches from Broome all the way to Townsville. Having an area of 1,769,160 sq. km, this savanna experiences extreme temperatures. Summer fires are common to Australian Savannas. Wildfires occur in the drier seasons i.e. May to October.
5-Kazakh Steppe
The Kazakh steppe, as its name suggests, is a large grassland region in Northern Kazakhstan. It also extends to some portions of Russia that are adjacent to Kazakhstan. The Kazakh steppe extends to a wide region having an area of 804,500 sq. km.
6-Pampas of Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil
The vastness of these grasslands can be judged by the fact that it touches almost three countries. Its area of 750,000 sq. km comprises of Argentine provinces of Buenos Aires, La Pampa, Santa Fe, Entre Rios and Cordoba. It also covers a large area of Uruguay and covers a vast Brazilian part i.e. Rio Grande do Sul.
7-Llanos Grasslands
Llanos is basically the Spanish word for “plains”. The Llanos stretch of grasslands are located across northern South America. They also enter western part of Venezuela and some part of North eastern Colombia. The Llanos grasslands have made into the biggest grasslands due to their vast area of 570,000 sq. km.
8-Manchurian Plain
Sitting at the heart of the central lowland in North-eastern China, the Manchurian Plain, also known as Sung Liao Plain spreads over an area of 350,000 sq. km. The sea level of this grassland is very low. No part of this grassland is above 1000 ft.
9-Great Hungarian Plain
Great Hungarian grassland stretches across South-eastern Hungary, Eastern Croatia, Northern Serbia and Western Romania. It covers more than 100,000 sq. km. About half of this area is in Hungary whereas the remaining part of this grassland is shared by Romania, Serbia and Croatia.
10-Hulun Buir Grassland
Situated in the Mongolian region, this grassland stretches over a vast area of 93,000 sq. km. Its name is characteristic of the two lakes it is named after: Hulun Lake and Buir Lake. It is surrounded by almost 3000 rivers and 500 lakes. Hulun Buir is amongst the top 3 most beautiful grasslands in the world.

Colombian Llanos Cowboy Land - Traveling Colombia

Welcome to Colombia
I drove to Casanare and Meta, two departments that make up part of the Llanos Colombia region. This region is known as the Cowboy Land of Colombia. It limits with Venezuela to the east. Its culture focuses on the raising of cattle, that's why its music carries with a wide tradition of harp and cowboy life. In this area you will find unique tourist attractions that are nowhere else in the world, as Caño Cristales, also known as the Rainbow River, habitat of pink dolphins; the Bio-park Los Ocarros, and the Natural National Park El Tuparro. Because of its rugged air, it is largely undiscovered by tourists and is thus one of my favorite places to visit. You can arrive to Llanos Orientales by car thanks to the Vía Llanos or by plane arriving to Villavicencio's airport. If you like horse riding, animals, and have always wanted to live the cowboy life, the Colombian Llanos is the place for you. And don't miss out the Colombia safari!

Venezuela Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Venezuela.
Venezuela is a land of beauty and contrast, a country that contains several unique habitats and is one of the last great natural paradises on Earth. It is also home to the legendary Orinoco, the second largest river in South America that also forms a natural border with Columbia. From Puerto Ayacucho we journey to the remote regions of the State Of Amazonas, the country’s most southerly province. Extending for one hundred and eighty thousand square kilometres and with only a hundred thousand inhabitants it is one of the most sparsely populated areas in Venezuela. A short journey by motorboat takes us to the headwaters of the Rio Ventuari. Because the route leads through an extensive maze of canals it is important that this leg of the journey be taken with an experienced guide who is well versed with the local geography. Following a three hour journey on various tributaries of the Orinoco we arrive at the small village of the Makiritare Indians. The natural variety of the underground world of the Los Roques Archipelago manifests itself in the diversity of the numerous coral reefs that grow there. Apart from a particular fire coral each one of them belongs to a single species that is known as the ‘flower animal’. East of the Venezuelan Andes, in the vast plains of the Llanos, the scenery is entirely different. It is almost reminiscent of America’s Old Wild West. The Llaneros is South America’s version of the legendary cowboy and the use of the Llanos as pasture land was introduced in the eighteenth century and covers a third of Venezuela. It is believed that a number of Andalucian families moved into the plains in 1548 as they were more interested in agriculture and cattle breeding than the Conquistadores who sought only gold. There is almost no other country in the world that contains so many diverse and fascinating landscapes as Venezuela, the land of the Indios and Llaneros and a land full of outstanding cultural contrast and natural splendour.

Orinoco Basin. Venezuela - Full Documentary
▶FULL DOCUMENTARIES |
▶ Spanish video:
Venezuela is the land of the tepuis and of exotic beaches. But inland there is another treasure of nature, still largely undiscovered – the basin of the Orinoco, lying between the Andes to the west, the coastal mountain range to the north and the Guyana massif to the south-east. It is so completely flat that it has been named the ‘Region of the Plains’.
Almost all the rains fall in a single season, and so the ecosystem of the plains alternates between extremes of flood and drought. It is a land of contrasts, a little-visited paradise of surprisingly rich and varied fauna and flora.
The Apure river runs across the plain, flanked by thick vegetation. Here, ever alert, lives the wood ibis, also know as the American ibis or forest stork. Every year they build their nests along the banks of the river and feed on the animals that live in its waters.
In the water, the alligators and the piranhas.
Most of the soil on the plains is clay, which prevents drainage. With the coming of the rains, the level of the rivers rises and, because the land is so flat, and the soil non-porous, many marshes are formed. The majority of them will disappear in the dry season. As the ground is flooded, the seeds that had been left buried in the mud the year before spring to life, covering the waters in dense vegetation.
Water hyacinths rapidly coat the surface of the lagoon.
The hyacinths don’t bury their roots in the soil, but rather float, feeding on the nutrients carried along by the water. In this way, they can drift with the current, and so easily colonise new territories.
The lack of roots is an advantage not only for the plants. It also means that fish and reptiles can move about freely below the surface of the water. Like the anaconda.
The number of water hyacinths is kept in check above all by this rodent, the capybara.
The capybara, weighing in at fifty kilos, is the largest rodent on earth.
After a gestation period of four months, the capybaras give birth to between two and eight young. The mating season is timed to ensure that they are born at the end of the rainy season, when conditions are at their best, and the chances of survival greatest. Around 50% do survive, which gives us some idea of the demographic potential of these rodents.
The dry season is also a time of plenty for the alligators. As water becomes scarce, the pools shrink, the fish are trapped and so are easy to catch.
The forests along the banks of the rivers are home to one of the strangest birds in the world, the hoatzin.
The hoatzin is totally unique. It is so extraordinary that it is believed to be related to the archaeopteryx, the oldest pre-historic bird known to man. It is herbivorous, living almost exclusively on the young shoots, leaves and fruit of two trees, the arum and the white mangrove.
So, the tributarieas of the Orinoco offer both protection and food. These waters form the marshes, and are the real source of life here on the plains, the guarantee that this will remain in the future what it is today, a paradise in the centre of Venezuela.

Most Incredible Places to Visit in Colombia
Cartagena
Let's start with the most obvious places, Cartagena, since it is Colombia's #1 tourist destination, and for pretty good reason. This old, walled city draws visitors through its colorful corridors, past exotic fruit vendors and sucks you in.
Tayrona National Park
Tayrona National Natural Park is probably the crown jewel of Colombia's national park system, an ecological paradise where palm-tree lined white sand beaches tuck up against crystalline blue waters.
Cabo de la Vela in La Guajira
For unforgettable beaches that are far less touristy than those in Cartagena or Tayrona, you should make a point to head to Cabo de la Vela along the Guajira region.
El Cocuy
For a total change of scenery you can (slowly, thanks to the high altitude) make your way to El Cocuy, located near the border of Venezuela, high in the Andes mountains.
San Gil
San Gil is located near the big city of Bucaramanga, and it remains one of my all-time favorite mid-size towns. San Gil is known as the adventure sports capital of Colombia, thanks to the many fun outdoor activities available in the area.
Villa de Leyva
Ville de Leyva is located a few hours from Bogota, and it is among the best preserved colonial towns in Colombia, with very little in the way of development over the past 400 years.
The Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira
Perhaps among the most unique churches in the world, the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira is a Catholic church built inside the tunnels of an underground salt mine, more than 200 meters underground.
Bogota
Bogota is the large and bustling capital city, a place that can be somewhat chaotic and overwhelming, but nonetheless is worth visiting as Colombia's most cosmopolitan city, filled with arts, culture, entertainment, food, and much more.
Caño Cristales
Caño Cristales is a unique natural attraction known as the red river or the river of seven colors, due to the phenomenon of naturally occurring algae during certain times of the year which turns the river into unreal colors.
Amazonas
Most visitors to Colombia explore only a tiny fraction of Colombia and never make it over the Andes to Los Llanos (the plains) and the Amazon. Again, this is a place that you need to fly to in order to visit, as there are no roads that will take you to Leticia.
San Andres & Providencia
Finally, the last of my recommended places to visit in Colombia that involves flying, is a trip to the idyllic Caribbean islands of San Andes and Providencia. These two islands are actually located closer to Nicaragua than Colombia, but are nonetheless part of Colombia.
Medellin
Medellin at first blush isn't the prettiest city (although the surrounding landscape most certainly is) but it is a place that beats with life, energy, and rejuvenation.
Guatape
Not too far outside of Medellin, you'll find the cute little town of Guatape with colorfully painted buildings and a plethora of things to do in this pleasant little tourist town.
Cali
Cali is often overlooked compared to Cartagena, Medellin, and Bogota, but it has its own interesting vibe and story... For one, this is the salsa dancing capital of Colombia, so if that's on your list at all, then you've got to come to Cali.
Tatacoa Desert
Crossing back over one of the cordillera mountain ranges from Cali, you will find the intriguing Tatacoa Desert, just north of Neiva. Here you will find what we usually call badlands in English, where strangely colored desert formations lay out before you.
San Agustin
South of Tatacoa, the landscape turns from desert to jungle, where you will find the town of San Agustin. The principle draw here, beyond the waterfalls and beautiful landscapes, is the San Agustin Archeological Park.
Popayan
The white city of Colombia was a huge surprise for me, and is certainly among my top favorite mid-size cities... Arguably even more attractive then some of the more famous colonial cities like Barichara or Villa de Leyva.
The Coffee Axis
The Coffee Axis, or Coffee Triangle consists of the area surrounding the three cities of Manizales, Armenia, and Pereira. This is where the majority of the Colombia's top coffee is cultivated.
Los Nevados
Los Nevados is another one of the top national parks in Colombia, which rivals El Cocuy in terms of the mountainous terrain and snowcapped peaks.
Valle de Cocora
Perhaps one of the most unique and impressive sights in Colombia is the Valle de Cocora, where wax palms stretch high into the area above the verdant green ground.
Las Lajas
Finally, my last recommendation in the top places to visit in Colombia is one that sits practically on the border with Ecuador in the far south... The Las Lajas Sanctuary.

Tourism in Colombia - Best Tourist Attractions
Colombia, officially the Republic of Colombia, is a country largely situated in the northwest of South America, with territories in Central America. Colombia shares a border to the northwest with Panama, to the east with Venezuela and Brazil and to the south with Ecuador and Peru. It shares its maritime limits with Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Jamaica, Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The sovereign state of Colombia is a unitary, constitutional republic comprising thirty-two departments.
Colombia has been inhabited by various indigenous peoples since 12,000 BCE, including the Muisca, Quimbaya, and the Tairona. The Spanish arrived in 1499 and by the mid-16th century conquered and colonized much of the region, establishing the New Kingdom of Granada, with Santafé de Bogotá as its capital. Independence from Spain was achieved in 1819, but by 1830 the Gran Colombia Federation was dissolved, with what is now Colombia and Panama emerged as the Republic of New Granada. The new nation experimented with federalism as the Granadine Confederation (1858), and then the United States of Colombia (1863), before the Republic of Colombia was finally declared in 1886. Panama seceded in 1903. Since the 1960s, the country has suffered from an asymmetric low-intensity armed conflict, which escalated in the 1990s but then decreased from 2005 onward.
Colombia is one of the most ethnically and linguistically diverse countries in the world, with its rich cultural heritage reflecting various European, Middle Eastern, African, and indigenous influences. Its urban centres are mostly located in the highlands of the Andes mountains and the Caribbean coast.
Colombian territory also encompasses Amazon rainforest, tropical grassland and both Caribbean and Pacific coastlines. Subsequently, it is one of the world's 17 megadiverse countries, and the most densely biodiverse of these per square kilometer.
Colombia is a middle power and regional actor in Latin America, with the fourth-largest economy. It is part of the CIVETS group of six leading emerging markets and is a member of the UN, the WTO, the OECD, the OAS, the Pacific Alliance, and other international organizations. Colombia has a diversified economy with macroeconomic stability and favorable growth prospects in the long run.
