The Pointe du Raz is a promontory that extends into the Atlantic from western Brittany, in France. The local Breton name is Beg ar Raz. It is the western point of the commune of Plogoff, Finistère. It is named after the Raz de Sein, the dangerous stretch of water between it and the island of Sein . It is a dramatic place of crashing waves and strong winds. The word raz was borrowed from Norman by the Bretons and shares the same etymology as the English word race, strong current of water; both are from Old Norse rás. 7. Rochefort-en-terre Rochefort En Terre
Rochefort-en-Terre is a commune in the Morbihan department of Brittany in north-western France. Rochefort-en-Terre is a designated “Petite Cité de Caractére”. The medieval chateau located in the town was the home of American painter Alfred Klots. He purchased the chateau in the early 1900s and oversaw its restoration. His son Trafford Klots inherited the chateau and continued to paint there and entertain other visiting artists. After his death his wife donated the building to the French government. In the grounds of the building is the NAIA museum, named after an early twentieth century witch who lived in the town. It houses a small collection of fantasy and kinetic art and sculpture.

SAILING THE BAY OF BISCAY ON A GOOD DAY
Sailing across the Bay of Biscay was a sailing adventure that created challenges and struggles along with excitement and reward. It was difficult, to say the least. Even with favorable conditions, we sailed across the infamous Bay of Biscay during the worst possible time of year. But even on a good day, The Bay of Biscay is ruthless.

At times, it was a glorious passage filled with playful dolphins, a whale sighting, a full moon lighting our way each night, and bright sunny weather. At other times, the constant pounding of the 3 to 4 meter waves rocked our bodies and our minds. We battled seasickness, exhaustion, and dehydration, but we made it 362 nautical miles in 80 hours to A Caruña, Spain.

This was the one passage Michelle feared the most. We now know first hand why The Bay of Biscay has such a feared reputation.

We are Maik and Michelle, two sailors from different worlds and different cultures with very different perspectives about sailing around the world together on our 43-foot, steel ketch, Seefalke. We also have different levels of sailing experience. Maik (a German) has sailed for more than 20 years, while Michelle (an American) has only been sailing five years. Our crew includes two Beagles, Cap’n Jack and Scout! Come along for the ride to follow our journey! We also love to cover cool travel destinations and the amazing sea creatures we discover along the way!

Infos : Lors de l'année de la France au Japon en 1998, le France prêta pour l'année entière la réplique de cette statue qui trône à Paris. Les japonais la placèrent donc là, dans ce tout nouveau quartier d'Odaiba, et la statue fut très vite adoptée.
