Palace Hotel do Bussaco - book now
Mata do Bussaco, 3050-261 Luso, Portugal
Description: In the Bussaco National Forest, this 5-star hotel occupies the hunting palace of the last Portuguese kings. Its elegant restaurant offers a range of exclusive Bussaco wines.
The individually decorated rooms have a classic décor and satellite TV for a modern twist. They all include antique furniture, ranging from 18-century to Art Nouveau pieces, and some rooms overlook the hotel’s extensive gardens.
In the heart of the Serra do Bussaco, Palace Hotel do Bussaco is about 29 km from Coimbra.
Palace Hotel do Bussaco is an excellent example of Manueline-Gothic architecture. Its richly decorated corridors feature antique furnishings, large paintings and traditional Portuguese glazed tiles.
Classic French cuisine and traditional Portuguese dishes are served at Palace Hotel do Bussaco’s restaurant. It is decorated with paintings by João Vaz, Moorish ceilings and exotic hardwood floors. Guests can try a glass of rare Port vintage at the bar.

Pluses:
Superb opportunity and value for money that is sadly unappreciated by everybody who complains about some irrelevant, minor details that spoil their snooty 5-star expectations. Thank god this place is a tiny bit rundown, which adds great charm and lets us, who actually can appreciate it, appreciate it affordably! Thank god this place is so full of character and isn't updated and converted to a posh and insanely expensive retreat that only a few could afford! Loved every moment of it - the emptiness in the off-season, the comfort of the room, its outdated yet photogenic furniture, the absolutely scrumptious breakfast. WiFi worked perfectly fine in the room and all public areas and was fast. Baby cot was available. The surrounding park is magnificent.
The staff was very friendly. The location and castle is awesome, has a nice restaurant and our room(s) (Junior suite) were located on the best spot of the castle. Don't miss it if you are in the neighbourhood, you will not forget this place and will be wondering about the glory of the builders and early residents. Do not expect a modern hotel were everything works. It is an old building. There is noise of the old radiators or cooling, but for us that is also the charm of this place. It is really an amazing place and you are sleeping in a museum. So is this a bad point? For us it was not. You will be back in the surroundings of the rich and famous of the 20th century.
Minuses:
The noise in the night of the old radiators, air conditioning or water pipes. But it is also part of the beauty, you really go back in time here.
Bussaco - Palace Hotel - Cruz Alta - Luso aerial view - 4K Ultra HD
Bussaco (or Buçaco in its old spelling) is a magical forest with around 700 varieties of trees. Many of them were brought to Europe by Portuguese explorers from Africa and the New World, including 300 exotic species such as Himalayan pines and Mexican cedars, is a delightful refuge of cypress groves, ferns, statues, fountains, and formal gardens. It's also home to the Palace Hotel do Bussaco.
The Cruz Alta (1795 feet) is the highest point on the mountain range which commands a magnificent view over the Serra da Estrela mountain, the Mondego River Valley and the Atlantic.
Hot springs of the village of Luso became known throughout Portugal due to its healing properties. Soon after, spa resorts were developed, and tourists came flocking into town during the summer months.
Aside from this, Luso, Portugal is also famous for its spring water. Currently, Luso spring water is being marketed as Luso’s Bottled Mineral Water, and many consider this as one of the best in Portugal.
Many thanks :

Bairrada - Portugal - Mealhada
Bairrada - Portugal - Mealhada
Portugal - Bairrada - Mealhada.

Pôr do sol no Luso

Quinta Dos Vales Winery Portugal
We went to this winery in Southern Portugal and took a tour along with a tasting. The grounds are covered with sculptures made by the vineyard owner. The tour was great and Duarte, our sommelier, gave us the most thorough tasting experience!

Nossa Senhora da Graça fort restoration work - Elvas - 4K Ultra HD
Nossa Senhora da Graça Fort or Lippe Fort It is a jewel of military architecture, rising upon the north hill of the city. This fort was built in the 18th century, in order to complete the defence line of Elvas fortified square. Located in a high spot, this fort was occupied by Spanish artillery during Linhas de Elvas battle in 659. It has four bastions, four ravelins and several gaps, so that its canons could beat the enemies as they approached.
Graça Fort is constituted by three defensive lines, including in its interior several dependencies such as barracks, chapel, bunkers, the governor house, a big cistern, cannons, among many others.
Important part of the Elvas defensive strategy, a town that since early times has been an important strategically defensive point, the Graça Fort was built in the place where before was located the ancient Santa Maria da Graça Chapel. The Fort is classified as
National Heritage since 1910, yet it is not presently opened to the public.
