It formed the backbone of a waterway stretching some 614 km , linking a number of lakes and rivers to provide a route from Gothenburg on the west coast to Söderköping on the Baltic Sea via the river Göta älv and the Trollhätte kanal, through the large lakes Vänern and Vättern. The canal itself is 190 km long, of which 87 km were dug or blasted, with a width varying between 7–14 m and a maximum depth of about 3 m . This video isn't about the beautiful views. It was simply about to capture the sensation of driving an original Y1 railcar with the original Fiat-engines. The sound is great. I suggest you plug in your headphones.
The line is Simrishamn - Ystad and the video was shot in 2003.
This Y1 railcar number 1303 was in the year of 2004 sold and transferred to Croatia where it got the class 7122 and number 031. Unfortunately, not long after it arrived, it smashed into a truck and was scrapped thereafter.
